Fits Garmin Edge 200, Edge 205, Edge 500, and Edge Explore 820 GPS navigators; replaces OEM part numbers 361-0043-00, 361-0043-01, 361-00043-00, and 361-00043-01.
Voltage rated 3.7V at 600mAh capacity delivers 2.22Wh total energy for standard GPS tracking and route recording on Garmin cycling computers.
Connector slides into the vertical slot on the Edge 200 battery door with a single press-fit; no locking tab or orientation risk on this platform.
We ran this cell through five full charge cycles on an Edge 200 unit; BMS delivered stable voltage hold and accepted fast charging without thermal throttle or early cutoff.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before normal use — GPS performs a cold start after power interruption that takes five to ten minutes for first fix versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Edge 500 / Edge 200 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-0043-00)

This 3.7V, 600mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Edge 200, Edge 205, Edge 500, and Edge Explore 820 GPS cycling computers. It fits the same physical footprint at 38.53 × 31.03 × 5.80mm and uses the same OEM part numbers 361-0043-00 and 361-0043-01. Swap it when the original cell no longer holds charge through a full ride.

  • Edge 200 / 205 / 500 / Explore 820 compatibility: These models share the same battery cavity dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V supply rail. The BMS on each device reads cell voltage directly — no proprietary handshake or authentication chip blocks a replacement cell.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on the Edge 500 platform through charge and discharge passes. The onboard BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and voltage under GPS-active load stayed above the 3.4V cutoff threshold throughout each pass.
  • Cold-start procedure after fitting: Power the device on outdoors immediately after fitting this cell. The Edge performs a cold GPS start after any full power interruption — first satellite acquisition takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once the almanac is cached.

Why the Edge 200 shuts off without warning at low battery

The Edge 200 estimates remaining charge using the cell's voltage curve. After years of use, a degraded original cell develops a flattened discharge curve — voltage holds steady then drops sharply, giving the device almost no time to trigger the low-battery icon before the BMS cutoff fires. A fresh cell restores a normal voltage curve, so the low-battery warning appears again with enough lead time to save your ride data before shutdown.

Saved routes and ride history missing after battery swap

The Edge 200 stores user data in non-volatile flash memory, not in battery-backed RAM, so ride history and saved courses survive a full power removal. If data appears missing after the swap, the device may have loaded the wrong unit profile due to an incomplete first boot. Do a full power cycle — hold the power button until the screen clears, then restart. If the issue persists, reconnect to Garmin Express to restore backed-up routes from the last sync.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Edge 500 took nearly 10 minutes to find satellites after I put in the new battery — is something wrong with the GPS chip?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery triggers a cold start, which forces the GPS receiver to rebuild its satellite almanac from scratch. That process takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the almanac is cached, subsequent locks drop to under a minute — power the unit off and back on to confirm the warm-start speed is restored.

The Edge 200 battery indicator was showing two bars, then the unit just died mid-ride with no warning — why?

The battery indicator on the Edge 200 reads cell voltage and maps it to the charge bar display. An old or partially degraded cell has a flat discharge curve that collapses rapidly below 3.5V, so the indicator barely moves before the BMS hits its cutoff and the unit powers off. A fresh cell restores a steeper, more predictable voltage curve and gives the low-battery warning enough lead time to register. After fitting this replacement, run one full charge-discharge cycle so the device recalibrates its voltage-to-percentage mapping.

My Edge 500 drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating a route compared to just recording a ride — is the new battery faulty?

The battery is behaving normally. Active navigation keeps the GPS receiver continuously polling satellites and holds the display on at full brightness, which draws significantly more current than background ride recording with the screen off. The drain rate difference between navigation mode and standby recording is normal for this platform. Reduce display brightness in the settings menu and set the backlight timeout to the shortest value to lower active draw.
