Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nokia 500 / PD-14 GPS Navigator — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (20-01673-01B)

This 3.7V, 1300mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Nokia 500 and PD-14 portable GPS navigators. It matches the OEM voltage rail and physical footprint at 63.91 × 41.62 × 4.62mm. Capacity figure is taken from the product data at 4.81Wh.

  • Nokia 500 and PD-14 compatibility: Both units share the same battery bay dimensions, 3.7V nominal rail, and Li-Polymer BMS handshake. The same cell works across both without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Nokia 500 platform. The BMS held cutoff voltage correctly and the protection circuit responded to over-discharge conditions without fault.
  • First satellite fix after fitting: Power the unit on outdoors immediately after installing this cell. The GPS performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first satellite acquisition takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy dropping at low battery on the Nokia 500

The Nokia 500's GPS receiver draws continuous power to maintain satellite lock. When cell voltage drops toward the lower threshold, the unit can reduce receiver sensitivity to preserve remaining charge. This shows up as degraded position accuracy or intermittent lock loss before the battery indicator reads empty. Keeping the cell above 3.5V during active navigation prevents the receiver from stepping down.

Nokia 500 shutting off without low-battery warning

After a battery swap, the Nokia 500's fuel gauge needs a full charge and discharge cycle to recalibrate its voltage-to-capacity mapping. Until that cycle completes, the unit can hit the hardware cutoff voltage and shut down while still showing bars on the indicator. Run the device from a full charge until automatic shutdown, then recharge fully — one cycle corrects the displayed threshold. Target a full charge to 4.2V before the first navigation session.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nokia 500 lost all my saved routes after I put in the new battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Nokia 500 holds some navigation data in volatile RAM that requires continuous battery voltage to retain. A full power removal — which happens during any battery swap — clears that RAM. Saved routes and custom POIs stored there are lost on power interruption. Re-enter routes from any backup you have on the paired PC software, or re-import from the SD card if you stored data there.

Nokia 500 took nearly 10 minutes to find satellites after the battery swap — is something wrong with the new cell?

Nothing is wrong. A full power interruption clears the GPS receiver's cached almanac and ephemeris data, forcing a cold start. Cold starts on the Nokia 500 take 5–10 minutes outdoors with clear sky view — that is the receiver rebuilding its satellite database from scratch. Once the almanac is cached, subsequent lock times drop to under a minute. Move to open sky, leave the unit powered on, and let it complete the fix without interruption.

Why does my Nokia 500 drain so much faster when I'm actively navigating versus just leaving it on standby?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the backlit display simultaneously — the two highest-draw components in the unit. Standby cuts the display and reduces receiver polling frequency, which drops current draw significantly. Screen brightness is the fastest variable to address: reducing display brightness during navigation measurably extends usable charge per cycle. If drain is still faster than expected after a brightness reduction, confirm the battery reading is calibrated by running one full charge-to-cutoff cycle first.
