Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Becker Traffic Assist 7928 / BE7928 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-LP1100/12-A1)

This is a 3.7V, 2400mAh Li-ion cell built to the BP-LP1100/12-A1 specification for the Becker Traffic Assist 7928 and BE7928 GPS navigators. It fits the dashboard-mounted unit directly, restoring the device's ability to run on battery power away from the car charger. Voltage, connector, and BMS handshake all match the original cell.

  • Traffic Assist 7928 and BE7928 compatibility: Both models share the same 3.7V power rail, connector pinout, and BP-LP1100/12-A1 cell specification — one replacement covers either unit without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Traffic Assist platform and confirmed the BMS communicates correctly with the device's charge controller, accepting a full charge without triggering protection cutoff.
  • First fix after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. The GPS performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first fix typically takes 5–10 minutes; subsequent warm starts are under a minute.

GPS accuracy dropping as the Traffic Assist 7928 battery level falls

At low state of charge, the Traffic Assist 7928 reduces power to the GPS receiver module to extend remaining battery life. Lower receiver power means reduced signal sensitivity, which can cause the position fix to wander or lose lock in areas with marginal signal — underground car parks, dense urban canyons, or tree cover. This is a firmware-level power management decision, not a fault with the antenna. Keeping the battery above roughly 3.6V under load keeps the receiver running at full sensitivity.

Traffic Assist 7928 shutting off with no low-battery warning

After fitting a new cell, the device's fuel gauge is uncalibrated — it no longer has accurate data on the cell's actual discharge curve. The on-screen battery indicator can show two or three bars right up until the protection circuit cuts off at the low-voltage threshold, giving no useful warning. Running two full charge-to-discharge cycles calibrates the gauge so the warning appears at the correct point. Charge to 100%, navigate until the unit shuts itself off, then repeat once more.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Becker Traffic Assist 7928 lost all saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Traffic Assist 7928 stores some route and POI data in RAM that relies on continuous battery power to retain its contents. A full power interruption during the swap clears that volatile memory. Saved favourites stored to internal flash are usually retained, but active routes and recent destinations are typically lost. Re-enter any critical destinations after fitting the new cell and verify your home and work POIs are still present.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes after fitting the new battery — was it faster before?

That delay is expected after any complete power loss. The Traffic Assist 7928 performs a cold start when power is fully removed — it has no almanac or ephemeris data cached and must download fresh satellite timing information from scratch. Once the first fix completes outdoors with a clear sky view, the unit caches that data and warm starts will lock in under a minute. Drive with the unit powered on for the first journey rather than waiting in a car park — open sky speeds up the initial acquisition.

The Traffic Assist 7928 battery drains much faster when I'm actively navigating than when the screen is idle — is the new cell faulty?

It is not faulty. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, the processor, and the display simultaneously — typically at full brightness in daylight. That load is significantly higher than standby with the screen dimmed. On a degraded original cell the difference was masked because total capacity was already low; a fresh 2400mAh cell makes the contrast more visible. Dropping display brightness one or two steps reduces draw on the display backlight, which is the single largest current consumer during navigation.
