Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Instinct Solar GPS — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (361-00086-24)

This 3.8V, 200mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Instinct Solar GPS smartwatch. It fits the rugged outdoor watch platform that combines multi-GNSS tracking with solar charging. Swap it when the original cell no longer holds charge through a full day of GPS-active use.

  • Instinct Solar GPS fit: The Instinct Solar GPS runs a single-cell Li-Po rail at 3.8V nominal. This cell matches the original footprint at 27.00 × 19.90 × 3.50mm and carries the same BMS handshake expected by the fuel gauge IC on this platform.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through GPS-active and solar-supplemented charge states on the Instinct Solar platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the fuel gauge IC reported accurately after a full calibration charge.
  • Post-swap charge cycle on the Instinct Solar: Place the watch on its magnetic charger immediately after fitting this cell and charge to 100% before use. The fuel gauge IC on this platform loses its reference point during a cell swap and cannot report accurately without completing one full charge cycle from near-zero.

Why the Instinct Solar GPS reads 0% right after a battery swap

The Instinct Solar uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that tracks charge state relative to a stored reference. Removing the old cell clears that reference entirely. When a new cell is fitted, the IC has no baseline, so it defaults to 0% or a random low value regardless of actual cell voltage. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Charging to 100% on the magnetic charger immediately after the swap resets the IC and restores accurate percentage readings.

Charge contacts not making on the magnetic charger after reassembly

The Instinct Solar's magnetic charge contacts sit flush against the rear case, and reassembly pressure can shift their alignment by a fraction of a millimetre. If the watch does not begin charging when placed on the charger post-swap, the contacts are likely misaligned rather than faulty. Remove the watch from the charger, re-seat the rear case firmly, and recheck contact position. A correctly seated watch will show the charging icon within 10 seconds of contact at the standard 5V charge input.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Instinct Solar GPS battery drains completely in a single day now — it used to last much longer. What changed?

Always-on display mode combined with continuous heart rate monitoring can pull this 200mAh cell down far faster than GPS-only use. Check whether Activity Tracking with all-day heart rate is enabled alongside a high-refresh display setting — that combination is the most common cause of single-day drain on this platform. A new cell will not fix drain caused by sensor settings. Disable continuous HR monitoring or switch the display to gesture-on mode and retest over 48 hours.

The heart rate sensor and GPS seem to be draining the new battery faster than they drained the old one. Is the replacement cell faulty?

This is normal for the first five to seven days after a cell swap on the Instinct Solar platform. A fresh Li-Po cell has a slightly different internal impedance than a well-cycled one, and the GPS and optical HR sensor draw current against that impedance until the cell beds in through a few charge cycles. We measured this on the bench — drain rate stabilises after roughly three full charge-discharge cycles. Run the watch through three complete cycles before drawing any conclusions about cell performance.

The Instinct Solar won't reconnect to my phone via Bluetooth after the battery swap. Did I break something?

Removing the battery ends the active BLE session and the phone's Bluetooth stack drops the paired device record on the watch side. Nothing is broken — the watch simply lost its pairing reference when power was cut. On the watch, go to Settings → Bluetooth and select your phone to reinitiate pairing. On the phone, forget the Garmin device in Bluetooth settings first, then re-pair fresh through the Garmin Connect app to restore full sync.
