Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Nuvi 780 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (EC36EC4240878)
This 3.7V, 1250mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Nuvi 780, 780T, 785, and 785T portable GPS navigators. It fits the same physical footprint at 59.00 × 36.50 × 5.50mm and connects directly to the existing battery terminals inside the unit. Capacity figures are taken from our product data, not estimated.
- Nuvi 780, 780T, 785, 785T compatibility: All four models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector orientation, and 3.7V supply rail. The BMS on each unit uses identical charge termination logic, so one cell covers the full sub-series without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge cycles on the Nuvi 780 platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without fault flags. Charge termination triggered correctly at capacity ceiling, and the protection circuit responded to simulated over-discharge as expected.
- Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the Nuvi fully on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. GPS units perform a cold start after full power removal — first fix can take 5–10 minutes outdoors with clear sky view, versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts once almanac data is cached.
GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Nuvi 780
When cell voltage drops toward the lower threshold, the Nuvi 780 reduces receiver sensitivity to extend operating time. This causes position drift and slower map updates — particularly noticeable on tight urban routing. The fix is straightforward: keep the unit on USB power during long drives, or replace the cell before it cycles below 3.5V under load. A new cell restores the receiver to full sensitivity immediately.
Nuvi 780 shutting off without a low-battery warning
An aged or deeply discharged cell loses the flat discharge curve lithium-polymer cells rely on for accurate state-of-charge reporting. The Nuvi's battery indicator reads higher than the actual remaining voltage, so the unit hits the hardware cutoff threshold — typically around 3.0V under load — with no visible warning. This is not a firmware fault; it is a calibration mismatch between the old cell's degraded curve and the gauge. After fitting a fresh cell, allow one full charge cycle to let the gauge re-calibrate against the new cell's output curve.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Nuvi 780 saved routes and favourites disappeared after I swapped the battery — is that normal?
Yes. The Nuvi 780 stores some route and POI data in battery-backed RAM, and a full power removal — which happens during a battery swap — clears that volatile memory. Favourites saved to the internal flash should survive, but active routes and recent destinations often do not. Before swapping, export any saved locations to a connected PC via Garmin's BaseCamp or MyDrives backup, then restore after fitting the new cell.
My Nuvi 780 is taking 8–10 minutes to get a GPS fix after fitting the new battery — is something wrong with the cell?
Nothing is wrong with the cell. Full power removal wipes the cached almanac and ephemeris data the GPS chip uses for fast positioning. Without that data, the receiver has to download a fresh set from satellites from scratch — that cold-start process takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Leave the unit stationary outside until the fix locks, and every subsequent start will return to the normal warm-start time of under a minute.
The Nuvi 780 drains the new battery much faster when I'm actively navigating than when it's just sitting idle — why?
Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously, refreshes the map display at regular intervals, and keeps screen brightness at working level — all simultaneously. Standby or menu use cuts GPS polling and dims the display, which drops draw significantly. To extend charge during long trips, lower screen brightness to the minimum readable level and connect the unit to the vehicle's USB or 12V power port — the Nuvi 780 will run directly off that supply and leave the battery untouched.
