Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom Go 550 Live — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (P11P11-43-S01)

This 3.7V 1100mAh Li-ion cell replaces the factory battery in the TomTom Go 550 Live GPS navigator. It fits the Go 550 Live and the 8CP5.011.11 hardware variant. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds enough charge to run the device away from a power source.

  • Go 550 Live and 8CP5.011.11 compatibility: Both variants use the same 3.7V battery bay, connector pinout, and charge management circuit. One cell covers both. No adapter or modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the Go 550 Live. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, charge termination fired correctly at capacity, and the device booted cleanly from flat.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the Go 550 Live on outdoors before driving. The GPS performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first satellite fix after a swap typically takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute once the almanac is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Go 550 Live

When battery voltage drops below roughly 3.5V, some GPS receivers step down receiver sensitivity to reduce current draw. On the Go 550 Live this can appear as a position jumping or reduced fix quality in urban canyons or under tree cover. The fix degrades gradually — you may not notice until the device reports poor signal or starts re-routing incorrectly. Keeping the cell above 20% charge avoids the sensitivity reduction entirely.

Go 550 Live shuts off without warning before the battery indicator hits empty

The on-screen battery indicator on the Go 550 Live is calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell or a degraded original can sit outside that curve, so the device hits its low-voltage cutoff — typically around 3.2V — before the indicator reaches one bar. The result looks like a sudden shutdown with battery still showing. After two or three full charge and discharge cycles on the replacement cell, the indicator recalibrates and the warning fires at the correct level.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TomTom Go 550 Live lost all my saved routes and favourites after I replaced the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Go 550 Live stores some navigation data in volatile RAM that relies on continuous battery power. A full power removal during a swap wipes that data. Saved favourites and recent destinations stored to internal flash survive the swap, but any routes that were only held in active memory do not. After fitting the new cell, re-enter any routes you had loaded in-progress and resave favourites from the device menu.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes on my Go 550 Live after the battery swap — was something damaged?

Nothing is damaged. Removing the battery triggers a cold start, which means the device has lost its cached almanac and ephemeris data. The GPS receiver has to download fresh satellite positioning data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes with clear sky overhead. Park outside with an unobstructed view of the sky and leave the device powered on without moving — subsequent warm starts after that first fix will lock in under a minute.

My Go 550 Live is draining the new battery much faster during active navigation than it did on standby — what is drawing the extra power?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously, keeps the display at full brightness, and processes map rendering in real time — all three together draw significantly more current than standby. The GPS receiver alone can pull three to four times the current of an idle screen. Dropping display brightness to mid-level and disabling Bluetooth when not in use are the two changes that make the most measurable difference to charge duration on this device.
