Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GAZ 5161000415 — 4.8V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (AAP-4S)
This is a 4.8V, 800mAh Ni-CD replacement cell for the GAZ 5161000415 emergency lighting unit. It powers the backup illumination circuit when mains power fails. The AAP-4S format fits the original battery bay without modification.
- GAZ 5161000415 fitting: The 5161000415 runs a 4.8V charge rail sized for a 4-cell Ni-CD pack. This cell matches that rail voltage and the AAP-4S connector orientation, so the charge controller sees the correct float target on reconnection.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a load-discharge test on the 5161000415 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault, and the charge indicator moved from red to green within the expected window.
- First installation test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the cell accepts load under emergency conditions and lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity before the next scheduled compliance inspection.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
A Ni-CD cell that has been in storage typically sits below the float acceptance window the charge controller expects — often under 4.2V on a 4-cell pack. When the controller reads that voltage on first connection, it holds the fault state rather than entering normal charge mode. Leave the fitting connected to mains for a full 24-hour period. The trickle charge will bring the cell voltage up into the 4.8V float window, and the indicator should shift to green once that threshold is crossed.
Emergency light dims and cuts short during a duration test
A new cell that has not completed its first full conditioning cycle will not deliver rated capacity on an early test. The cell voltage drops faster than expected under load, and the fitting dims or shuts off before the test duration is met. This is not a fault with the cell — Ni-CD chemistry requires one full charge and discharge cycle to reach labelled capacity. Allow 24 hours on charge after installation, then run the full test again.

Frequently Asked Questions
The fitting still shows a fault LED after I've fitted the new AAP-4S and left it on charge overnight — what's wrong?
Some GAZ 5161000415 fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not auto-clear it when a new cell is accepted. The charge controller may have already moved to float charge internally even though the LED hasn't changed. Locate the reset button on the fitting's PCB or control face — on most 5161000415 units this is a recessed push-button — and press it once with mains power connected. If the indicator shifts to green, the cell and controller are operating correctly.
My emergency light passed the duration test fine when I first fitted the battery, but six months later it's failing — the cell isn't that old.
Ni-CD cells in continuous trickle-charge fittings are vulnerable to capacity fade from shallow-cycle use — the fitting never fully discharges the cell, so each cycle becomes shorter over time. Check the fitting's ambient temperature; a unit mounted near a heat source accelerates this process significantly. Run a full manual discharge-to-cutoff followed by a 24-hour recharge to partially recover capacity. If the cell still fails the rated duration after that conditioning cycle, replacement is the correct next step.
The battery casing looks swollen after only a year in the fitting — is the fitting overcharging it?
Swelling on a Ni-CD pack in an emergency light fitting is almost always caused by continuous overcharge — the trickle charge circuit applies voltage beyond the cell's acceptance point, generating internal gas pressure. Check the charge controller output with a multimeter: the float voltage across the battery terminals should sit at or below 5.4V for a 4-cell Ni-CD pack. If the reading is higher, the charge circuit in the fitting has drifted and will damage a replacement cell in the same way — the fitting itself needs attention before installing a new AAP-4S.
