Fits Thorn Voyager Blade 2 E3, E3T, E3D emergency lighting fixtures replacing OEM part 59011290.
3.6V, 800mAh Ni-CD cell delivers the capacity this fixture's charge controller expects for full duration performance.
Cylindrical D-cell connector, vertical insertion with positive terminal upward, secured by friction fit in the battery chamber.
We bench-tested this cell in a Blade 2 E3 charger — the green charge indicator engaged within two hours and held steady through 48-hour float.
Run a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the full rated duration — this confirms the new cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register new capacity before the next scheduled compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Thorn Voyager Blade 2 E3 Series — 3.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (59011290)

This is a 3.6V, 800mAh Ni-CD replacement cell for the Thorn Voyager Blade 2 E3, Blade 2 E3T, and Blade 2 E3D emergency lighting fixtures. It slots into the fitting's battery bay and connects to the onboard charge controller that maintains the cell in float charge between mains failures. Capacity matches the original OEM specification at 800mAh (2.88Wh).

  • Blade 2 E3, E3T, and E3D compatibility: All three variants run the same 3.6V charge rail and use an identical physical connector and bay geometry. The charge controller does not perform a BMS handshake — it floats the cell at a fixed voltage — so the cell chemistry and nominal voltage must match the original exactly for the controller to regulate correctly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle on a Blade 2 E3 fitting and confirmed the charge controller reached green status, the cell accepted load on a simulated mains failure, and output voltage held within spec across the full discharge curve.
  • First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cell accepts load under the fitting's actual conditions and lets the charge controller register the cell before the next scheduled compliance test.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-CD cell ships in a partially discharged state after months in warehouse storage. The charge controller in the Blade 2 E3 applies a trickle float charge — it does not run a conditioning cycle. Until the cell completes at least one full charge-discharge cycle under real load, its available capacity sits below the rated 800mAh. Run a manual test cycle immediately after installation, allow the fitting a full 24-hour recharge, then run a second test to confirm the cell reaches rated duration.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

The Blade 2 E3 charge controller reads cell voltage before switching its indicator to green. A cell sitting in storage can drop below the float acceptance window — typically under 3.0V — which the controller interprets as a fault condition rather than a discharged cell. Remove the cell and measure open-circuit voltage with a multimeter. If it reads below 3.0V, apply a brief external charge at 0.1C (80mA) for two to four hours to bring it above the acceptance threshold, then reinstall and allow the fitting to complete its charge cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Blade 2 E3 passes the brief press test but fails the full three-hour duration test — why?

A new Ni-CD cell needs at least one complete charge-discharge cycle before it delivers its rated 800mAh under load. The fitting's trickle charge controller does not run a conditioning cycle, so a cell straight from the box will fall short on duration. Install the battery, allow 24 hours of uninterrupted float charge, then run a full manual test. After that first full cycle the cell will reach rated capacity on subsequent tests.

The emergency light dims noticeably after a few minutes during the test — is the battery faulty?

This is a first-activation issue, not a faulty cell. Ni-CD cells that have been in storage show a voltage depression on their first discharge — the cell voltage sags earlier than it will on subsequent cycles. This is normal behaviour and resolves after one full charge-discharge cycle. Recharge the fitting for a full 24 hours after the test and repeat — the second test will show significantly less sag.

The fitting still shows a fault LED even though the new 59011290 battery is correctly installed and wired — what resets it?

Some Blade 2 E3 fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is detected. Isolate the fitting from mains power for 30 seconds, then restore power. This forces the charge controller to reinitialise and re-read cell voltage from scratch. If the fault LED persists after reinitialisation, measure the open-circuit voltage of the installed cell — it should read at least 3.0V before the controller will accept it and clear the fault.
