Fits Thorn Voyager Solid E3 and E3T emergency lighting units, replaces OEM part 4681027.
3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-CD cell delivers enough capacity for a full emergency duration test cycle on these fixtures.
Cylindrical form factor slides into the battery compartment with spring contacts at both ends, no locking tab required.
We bench-tested this cell in a Voyager Solid E3 housing — the charge controller accepted the new pack within four hours and showed green indicator by hour eight of float charge.
Run the emergency light's manual test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of installation; this confirms the new cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register the actual capacity before your next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Thorn Voyager Solid E3 / E3T — 3.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (4681027)

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-CD replacement cell for the Thorn Voyager Solid E3 and E3T emergency lighting units. It replaces OEM part 4681027 inside the fitting. Voltage and capacity match the original specification exactly.

  • E3 and E3T compatibility: Both the E3 and E3T variants share the same battery bay dimensions and charge controller circuit — 129.20 x 25.00 x 22.50mm cell footprint, 3.6V nominal rail. The charge controller handshake is identical across both builds, so one cell covers both.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle on the E3 controller. The charge circuit accepted the cell without fault, brought terminal voltage up to float level, and the green charge LED confirmed acceptance within the expected window.
  • First test cycle after installation: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting. This confirms the new cell accepts load current and lets the charge controller register actual cell capacity before any scheduled compliance test is due.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A fresh Ni-CD cell shipped in storage condition holds a partial charge — not a full one. The E3 charge controller applies a trickle charge, but if the fitting is tested before the cell has completed a full charge cycle, available capacity will fall short of the rated duration. Ni-CD chemistry also requires one or two full charge-discharge cycles before the cell reaches its stated 2000mAh capacity. Allow a minimum 24-hour charge period after installation before running a compliance duration test.

Charge indicator not turning green after fitting the new cell

If the cell has self-discharged below roughly 3.0V during storage, the E3 charge controller may not recognise it as a valid cell on first connection. The controller expects terminal voltage within a specific acceptance window before switching to normal charge mode. Leave the fitting connected to mains for two to four hours — the controller's pre-charge stage will bring voltage up into the acceptance range. Once terminal voltage crosses the threshold, the indicator will switch to green and normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Thorn Voyager Solid E3 passed every duration test for years — why did it fail the last one even after I fitted a new battery?

A new Ni-CD cell needs at least one full charge-discharge cycle before it delivers its rated 2000mAh capacity. If the fitting was tested within hours of installation, the cell was not yet fully conditioned. Allow 24 hours on mains charge after fitting, then run a manual test by holding the test button for the full rated duration — that first cycle brings the cell up to its working capacity for subsequent compliance tests.

The emergency light dims noticeably partway through a manual test — what causes that on a cell I just installed?

Dimming mid-test means the cell ran out of usable charge before the test completed, which is different from a cell that fails to start. On a fresh replacement, this points to an incomplete first charge — the cell entered the test with less than full capacity. Ni-CD cells also show a pronounced voltage drop under sustained load if they have not had a conditioning cycle. Charge the fitting on mains for a full 24 hours, then repeat the manual test; capacity should hold for the full duration.

The fitting still shows a fault LED after I confirmed the new 4681027 cell is seated correctly — is the fitting damaged?

Some Thorn Voyager fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not self-clear when a new cell is connected. The fault condition has to be manually reset. Disconnect mains power to the fitting for 30 seconds, then reconnect — this forces the charge controller to reinitialise and re-evaluate cell status from scratch. If the fault LED clears and the charge indicator moves toward green within a few minutes, the fitting is functioning correctly and the reset resolved it.
