Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

General Electric GE CD Central Display Board — 3.6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery

This 3.6V 2700mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell replaces the backup battery in the General Electric GE CD Central Display Board PLC. It maintains SRAM program memory and real-time clock data when primary power is removed. Without a functioning cell, the controller loses its program and clock values on the next power cycle.

  • GE CD Central Display Board compatibility: The CD Central Display Board uses a 3.6V Li-MnO2 cell to hold SRAM state and RTC registers during power-down. The cell's flat discharge curve keeps retention voltage stable across long maintenance intervals, which matters when shutdown periods are unplanned.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell under continuous SRAM retention load and confirmed the BMS holds stable output through the full discharge curve. Cell voltage at dispatch measures within normal storage range and climbs to rated voltage within hours on the PLC's float charge circuit.
  • Hot-swap procedure for this controller: Always replace this battery with the GE CD Central Display Board powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the PLC is de-energised clears SRAM instantly — the program is gone and must be reloaded from a programming device. There is no recovery path without a backup copy of the program file.

Why the GE CD Central Display Board loses its program after a battery swap

SRAM on this controller is volatile — it needs continuous voltage to hold data. The backup cell is the only power source for that memory when mains power is off. If you pull the old cell before the new one is connected, even a gap of a few seconds is enough to clear the entire memory map. The fix is a live swap: new cell in before old cell out, with the PLC energised throughout.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good cell installation

The CD Central Display Board does not auto-clear a battery fault alarm once a new cell is fitted. The alarm flag is written to a register in the controller and must be reset manually through the programming software. Connect a programming device, navigate to the fault or alarm table, and clear the battery fault register directly. After clearing, confirm the alarm does not return — if it does, check cell contact tension and verify voltage at the battery terminals reads at least 3.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions

The GE CD Central Display Board lost its program right after I swapped the battery — what happened?

The SRAM on this controller has no capacitor buffer — it relies entirely on the battery for retention the moment mains power is off. If you removed the old cell before inserting the new one, even a brief gap erased memory. The program must be reloaded from a backup copy using a programming device connected to the controller. Going forward, always perform a live swap with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode.

New battery is installed but the programming software still shows a battery alarm — is the cell faulty?

The alarm flag is not cleared automatically when a new cell is fitted. It sits in a fault register and has to be reset manually inside the programming software. Connect your programming device, locate the battery fault in the alarm or diagnostics table, and clear it by hand. If the alarm returns within minutes, measure voltage directly at the battery terminals — it should read 3.4V or above.

The replacement cell seems to deplete faster than the original did — what causes that?

Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 20°C, so a warm control cabinet is the most common cause of shortened service intervals. Check the enclosure temperature near the battery compartment — if it runs consistently above 40°C, the cell will not last as long as the datasheet suggests. Improving cabinet ventilation or adding a small fan to reduce ambient temperature around the controller will extend the replacement interval noticeably.
