This is a 2.4V, 3500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery pack for the Geo-Fennel FL 1000, FLG 250 grun, and FL 200AN rotating laser levels. It replaces OEM part number 243000-18. These are professional rotating lasers used on construction and surveying sites for grading, levelling, and layout work.

A slow pre-charge at low current (trickle mode on a compatible charger) is needed to bring cell voltage back above the recovery floor before the BMS accepts a normal charge cycle. Check that cell voltage has returned to at least 2.0V per cell before switching to standard charge rate.

FL 1000 shuts down mid-rotation with no low-battery warning

The rotating head and self-levelling mechanism draw a combined current spike each time the instrument corrects its plane — this is higher than the steady-state laser diode draw. In a degraded or partially discharged Ni-MH pack, that transient load pulls cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold before the fuel indicator catches it, so the instrument cuts out without warning. The FL 1000 charger shows no light and the instrument won't power on after the battery sat in storage — what's going on?

The Ni-MH cells have self-discharged below the BMS recovery threshold, and the protection circuit is blocking charge input. A standard charger won't engage because the pack voltage is too low for normal charge detection. Use a charger with a trickle or recovery mode to bring each cell above 1.8V, then switch to standard charge. Once resting pack voltage reads at least 2.4V, the instrument should power on normally.

The FL 1000 cuts out mid-rotation even though the battery indicator was still showing charge — why does this keep happening?

The self-levelling motor and laser diode together pull a transient current spike every time the instrument corrects its plane. If the pack is ageing or partially discharged, that spike drops cell voltage below the BMS cutoff before the indicator registers low battery. The instrument cuts out without warning as a result. This is usually a calibration issue, not a faulty pack. Run a complete self-levelling cycle from a cold start without interrupting it.
