If the original cell has degraded or no longer holds charge, this unit restores full battery operation.

Why BIOS reports poor battery health immediately after a cell swap

Gericom notebooks store battery health data in the old cell's EEPROM. When a new cell is installed, the BIOS reads no matching EEPROM history and flags the battery as degraded or unknown. This is a data mismatch, not a fault with the replacement cell. Running a full discharge-to-hibernate followed by a complete uninterrupted charge forces the BIOS to write new learn-cycle data and clear the warning.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on the gauge

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual discharge curve. The gauge inherited calibration data from the old, degraded cell and predicts voltage collapse too early. Under combined CPU and display load, the laptop interprets a normal mid-range voltage as critically low and shuts down. Run two to three full discharge-and-charge cycles — the fuel gauge IC will recalibrate and the cutoff point will shift back toward the correct low-voltage threshold near 9V.

System info shows the wrong Wh rating for this battery — is the cell I received incorrect?

The Wh figure shown in your OS or BIOS is read from EEPROM data that was written for the original OEM cell, not measured live from the replacement. This cell is rated at 73.26Wh, but the system may display a different figure until the learn cycle overwrites the stored value. Run a full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After that cycle the reported Wh rating should update to reflect the actual cell capacity.
