This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Hirschmann 1200 cordless phone. It slots into the handset where the original B3161 pack sits. Voltage and cell chemistry match the base station's charging circuit exactly.

  • Hirschmann 1200 handset fit: The 1200 handset runs a single-cell NiMH pack at 3.6V nominal. This replacement uses the same cell arrangement and connector orientation as the original B3161, so the handset PCB recognises the pack without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the Hirschmann 1200 base charging circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted charge correctly from the first cycle. Termination voltage and charge acceptance matched the factory spec.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state and need three to five full charge and discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. After a fresh install, the first few sessions will feel noticeably shorter than expected. Each full cycle conditions the cell chemistry and pushes usable capacity higher. By cycle five, the pack should be delivering close to the rated 1200mAh.

NiMH batteries stored for several months can drop below 3.0V, which is under the acceptance threshold for many DECT base charging circuits. The base sees the voltage and refuses to initiate a charge cycle. To recover the pack, use a standalone NiMH charger to push it up to around 3.3V first, then return it to the base. Once the base detects a voltage above its cutoff, the charge cycle will start normally.

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones clear their pairing data when power drops completely. The fix is to re-register the handset from the base station menu — on most Hirschmann DECT bases this means holding the registration button on the base until the handset enters pairing mode. Once the handset shows the base name, confirm the link and the system will restore normal operation.

The Hirschmann 1200 range dropped noticeably after I put in the new battery — what's causing that?

Range reduction after a NiMH swap usually points to voltage sag under RF transmit load. The handset radio draws a surge of current each time it transmits, and an unconditioned NiMH pack sags in voltage under that load, which causes the transmitter to pull back power. Run three to five full charge cycles to condition the cells — as internal resistance drops, the voltage holds steadier under transmit load and range recovers. If range is still short after five cycles, check that the handset is fully seated in the base each charge.

The Hirschmann 1200 battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting on the base — why?

This is a seating issue, not a battery fault. When the handset is not making full contact with the base charging pins, it draws standby power from the battery without topping it back up. Check that the handset clicks firmly into the cradle and that the charging contacts on both the handset and base are clean and free of dust or oxidation. Wipe the contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the handset, and confirm the charge indicator light activates within a few seconds of placing it down.
