Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Honeywell 9700 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (200003231)
This is a 7.4V, 1400mAh lithium-ion battery for the Honeywell 9700 handheld barcode scanner. It fits the 9700, 9700-BTEC, 9700-BTEC-1, and 9700LP0003Q12E, along with additional variants in the 9700 line. The cell matches the OEM voltage rail and connector layout of the original pack.
- 9700 platform compatibility: All 9700 variants share the same battery bay geometry, 7.4V nominal rail, and BMS handshake protocol. A single replacement pack covers the full range without modification or adapter.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through scan-trigger and wireless radio load cycles. The BMS held cutoff thresholds correctly under combined inrush from the imager and the 802.11 radio polling simultaneously.
- First shift prep — cradle charge before pick-and-pack: After installing a fresh pack, place the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before starting the shift. The scan trigger inrush is highest when the cell sits near its minimum state of charge. A fully charged cell prevents false BMS trips when your team hits the first heavy scan burst.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
Charging docks on the 9700 read pack state through the battery contacts before initiating a charge cycle. If those contacts carry oxidation or debris from the previous pack, the dock misreads the new battery and throws a fault. The dock does not distinguish between a bad cell and a bad connection — it simply stops. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle bay with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the pack, and the charging indicator should switch to active within 30 seconds.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
The 9700 pulls current from two sources at once during a rapid scan burst — the imaging module fires while the 802.11 radio is mid-poll. On a depleted or degraded pack, that combined draw causes a brief voltage sag that drops the radio below its minimum operating threshold. The scanner drops the access point association and has to re-authenticate, which shows up as a connection drop rather than a battery warning. Keep the pack above 20% charge during high-frequency scanning shifts — below that level the sag window widens and dropouts become frequent.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Honeywell 9700 stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped the battery — what's wrong?
The imager needs a minimum voltage to fire at full power, and a new pack fresh out of packaging often sits below 50% state of charge after storage. At that charge level, the laser or imaging module may not receive enough sustained current to read reliably, especially on damaged or low-contrast labels. Place the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before using it. Once the pack reaches 8.2V–8.4V, the imager should return to full performance.
The 9700 cradle is flashing an error light instead of charging the new battery — how do I fix it?
The dock checks contact resistance before it starts a charge cycle, and any debris or oxidation on the battery terminals causes it to abort with a fault code. This is a contact issue, not a cell defect. Wipe the gold pads on the battery and the contacts inside the cradle bay with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the pack firmly. The charging light should switch from fault to active within 30 seconds of a clean reseat.
The scanner feels warm after a long warehouse shift — is that normal or a sign something is wrong?
Sustained back-to-back scanning combined with continuous 802.11 wireless polling generates steady heat inside the 9700's enclosed housing. At the end of a full shift the case running slightly warm is expected. If the housing is hot to the touch or the scanner shuts itself off, the BMS is triggering a thermal cutoff — let the unit cool for 10 minutes in open air, then check that the battery contacts are clean and that the pack voltage reads at least 7.0V before resuming use.
