Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dolphin 9700 Handheld — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (200-0032-31)

This 7.4V, 1400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Dolphin 9700 handheld terminal. The 9700 is a rugged barcode scanner used in retail, logistics, and warehouse environments for mobile data collection. Voltage, capacity, and connector match the original specification from the product data.

  • Dolphin 9700 fit: The 9700 platform uses a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion configuration with a BMS that handshakes on the communication pin at the pack connector. A pack that doesn't match the expected voltage profile at that pin will be rejected by the terminal's charge management circuit before the first scan trigger fires.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through cold-start power-on, continuous scan bursts, and simultaneous wireless polling. The BMS held the discharge floor without tripping on combined scan-trigger and radio inrush events.
  • First-shift prep for pick-and-pack: After installing this pack, place the 9700 in its cradle for a full charge cycle before putting it into a live pick run. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged cell prevents false BMS trips when the first shift hits maximum scan frequency.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

The 9700 cradle reads the pack's communication pin before it begins charging. If the dock contacts have oxidation or debris on either the cradle side or the pack side, the handshake fails and the cradle logs a charging fault rather than a bad battery. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the dock with a dry lint-free cloth, and reseat firmly. If the error clears, the fault was contact resistance — not the cell. If it persists after cleaning, check that cradle firmware is current for the 200-0032-31 pack profile.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

On the 9700, the scan trigger and the wireless radio draw simultaneously during burst scanning — the imager fires, data is processed, and the radio transmits in the same half-second window. If the cell voltage sags below roughly 6.8V under that combined load, the radio stack drops before the BMS hard-cuts the pack, causing a connection dropout that looks like a network problem. This is a voltage-sag issue, not a Wi-Fi issue. A freshly charged pack with a healthy internal resistance will hold voltage above the radio's minimum threshold through a burst cycle. If dropouts start mid-shift, check resting voltage — anything below 7.2V at rest after a full charge points to a worn cell that needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 9700 won't read barcodes right after I swapped the battery — scanner powers on fine but the laser just doesn't trigger properly.

The imager and laser on the 9700 require stable voltage above a minimum threshold before the scan engine initialises fully. If the replacement pack was installed at a low state of charge, the terminal may power on from residual voltage but the scan engine won't fire correctly. Place the scanner in the cradle and charge to 100% before using it — we saw this exact behaviour on the bench when we installed the pack at under 30% charge. After a full charge cycle the scan engine initialised cleanly on the first trigger pull.

This battery feels noticeably warm after a full warehouse shift — is that normal for the 9700?

Sustained back-to-back scanning combined with constant wireless polling generates continuous draw through a compact Li-ion pack inside a sealed housing, so some warmth is expected. What's not normal is a pack that's hot to the touch or that triggers a thermal warning on the terminal's status screen. We measured surface temperature on the bench under a simulated high-frequency scan burst with wireless active — the pack ran warm but stayed well within the Li-ion safe operating range of under 45°C. If the pack is uncomfortably hot after a normal shift, check that the battery compartment contacts are clean and seating flush — a high-resistance contact forces the cell to work harder to deliver the same current.

The 9700 is lasting a much shorter shift than the old battery did even though this one is brand new — what's going wrong?

The most common cause is shallow cycling — if the 9700 is being topped up in the cradle every hour or two rather than running through a full discharge-to-charge cycle, the BMS never recalibrates its state-of-charge counter and the terminal's battery indicator becomes inaccurate. The cell itself may have full capacity but the terminal cuts off early based on a miscalibrated reading. Run the scanner from a full charge down to the automatic low-battery shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — one full cycle resets the BMS fuel gauge. After that cycle, shift endurance should reflect the rated 1400mAh capacity.
