Fits Honeywell CV30 barcode scanners; replaces OEM part number AB5 for inventory and point-of-sale operations.
3.7V lithium-ion cell at 3400mAh gives the CV30 enough capacity for extended scan-and-transmit cycles without mid-shift swaps.
Connector type matches original CV30 pack; slides into the battery door with the contact tab facing the scanner body.
We bench-tested this cell through rapid-fire scan bursts plus concurrent wireless polling on a CV30 dock cradle; BMS accepted the charge cycle without fault codes.
Before first operational shift, place the scanner in its cradle for a complete charge — the scan trigger draws peak inrush current and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS cutoff during rapid barcode bursts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Honeywell CV30 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AB5)

This 3.7V, 3400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the AB5 pack in the Honeywell CV30 handheld barcode scanner. The CV30 is a mobile data collection device used in retail, warehousing, and inventory environments. Voltage, capacity, and connector position match the original specification exactly.

  • CV30 platform fit: The CV30 runs a single-cell 3.7V architecture with a BMS handshake through the AB5 connector. This pack carries the same communication lines the CV30 dock and charging cradle expect to see — the scanner and cradle both negotiate charge state through those lines before current flows.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-burst sequences on a CV30 unit. The BMS held the charge rail steady through continuous trigger pulls and active wireless polling without dropping below the scanner's minimum operating threshold.
  • First-shift charge protocol: After installing this pack, seat the CV30 in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first pick-and-pack shift. The scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum charge — a pre-charged cell prevents a false BMS trip on the first trigger pull of the day.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new AB5 pack

The CV30 cradle reads the pack's charge state through gold contact pins on the battery door. If those contacts have oxidation or residue from the old pack, the cradle throws a fault before any current flows. Wipe the pack contacts and cradle pins with a dry cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and confirm the charge indicator lights within 10 seconds. If the error clears, the contact resistance was the cause — not the pack or the cradle electronics.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The CV30's wireless radio and scan imager draw current simultaneously during fast barcode sequences. If the cell voltage sags below the scanner's radio-hold threshold during that combined inrush, the wireless stack drops and the unit re-associates with the access point — which appears as a connection loss rather than a power issue. This happens most often when the battery is below 20% charge. Keep the pack above that level during peak-demand shifts and the voltage rail stays stable enough to hold both loads.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CV30 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped the battery — what's wrong?

The imager needs a minimum voltage to fire reliably, and a new pack straight out of packaging may not be at full charge. Seat the scanner in its cradle and let it charge fully before triggering any scans. If it still won't read after a full charge cycle, check that the battery door is fully closed — a partially seated AB5 pack can interrupt the power rail to the imager. The scanner should read barcodes normally once the cell is above 3.6V under load.

The scanner feels noticeably warm after a long warehouse shift — is that a battery problem?

Sustained scan bursts combined with continuous wireless polling generate heat inside the CV30's enclosed housing, and that heat conducts back to the battery. The AB5 cell itself operates within its rated thermal range during normal shifts, but if the housing feels hot to the touch rather than just warm, check whether the scanner is polling the network more frequently than the job requires — some WMS configurations set aggressive ping intervals that keep the radio active continuously. Reducing the poll frequency drops the combined thermal load significantly.

The new battery doesn't seem to last as long through a shift as the old one did on day one — what's happening?

A new Li-ion cell often needs two or three full charge-discharge cycles before it reaches rated capacity — 3400mAh is the figure after the chemistry has been exercised. Run the scanner through complete shifts without topping up mid-day for the first few cycles, then return it to the cradle for a full overnight charge. If shift endurance is still noticeably short after three cycles, check how often the CV30 is running backlight-on and active wireless simultaneously — those two loads together accelerate cell draw faster than scan frequency alone.
