Fits Trilithic TR-3 barcode scanner, replacing OEM battery CS-FPT310BL directly.
3.6V, 2500mAh Ni-MH cell delivers consistent voltage throughout each scan cycle without stepdown lag.
Slides into the rear battery compartment with spring-loaded contacts; no locking tab, straight insertion only.
We bench-tested the pack on rapid barcode reads and wireless polling — BMS fired clean on first dock contact, no fault delays.
On first shift, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before pick-and-pack work — the scan trigger draws peak inrush current near minimum voltage and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Trilithic TR-3 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 2500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Trilithic TR-3 handheld barcode scanner. It fits both the TR-3 and TR3 designations — same unit, different labelling across documentation. Capacity figure comes from the product specification, not a third-party estimate.

  • TR-3 and TR3 compatibility: Both model references use the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH pack with identical connector orientation and form factor. The BMS on the TR-3 cradle expects a Ni-MH charge curve — this pack delivers exactly that, no handshake mismatch.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger bursts and cradle charge sequences. The BMS accepted the charge curve without flagging a fault, and voltage held steady across rapid-fire scan events that typically stress a depleted cell.
  • First-shift preparation for pick-and-pack: Place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using it on the floor. Scan-trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum, and a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS trips during a heavy first shift.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

The TR-3 cradle monitors contact resistance as part of its charge initiation check. If the dock contacts on either the cradle or the battery pack carry oxidation or debris, resistance reads high and the cradle flags a fault rather than starting the charge cycle. This is not a battery defect — it is a contact issue. Wipe the gold contacts on the pack and the cradle pins with a dry cloth, reseat firmly, and the charging indicator should return to normal within 30 seconds.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

During a fast scan sequence, the TR-3 draws current simultaneously from the scan trigger and the wireless radio polling the access point. On a weakened or partially charged cell, this combined inrush pulls the terminal voltage below the radio module's minimum operating threshold, causing the wireless link to drop. The scanner may still appear functional — the trigger fires — but decoded data stops transmitting. Charge the pack to full before a shift where scan burst frequency will be high, and check that terminal voltage at rest reads at least 3.4V before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

The TR-3 scanner is not reading barcodes after I swapped the battery — laser comes on but no decode

The laser or imager needs a minimum supply voltage to drive the decode processor reliably. If the replacement pack was not charged before installation, terminal voltage may be too low to complete a decode cycle even though the laser fires. Place the scanner in its cradle, charge fully, then retest — a full Ni-MH cell on this pack rests at approximately 3.6V and decode performance restores at that level.

The TR-3 runs noticeably warm after a long shift — is that a battery problem?

Sustained scan-trigger use combined with continuous wireless polling generates significant heat in the enclosed TR-3 housing, and that heat transfers to the battery pack. Ni-MH chemistry tolerates moderate warmth, but if the pack feels hot rather than warm, the cell may be working harder than it should due to a high internal resistance on an older pack or a faulty cradle contact slowing charge acceptance. Check cradle contact cleanliness first, then verify the pack is reaching a full charge before each shift — a fully charged pack runs cooler than one that starts the shift partially discharged.

The TR-3 scanner lasts noticeably fewer scan cycles than it used to even with the new battery

Ni-MH cells degrade faster when repeatedly shallow-cycled — charged after only a small discharge and never allowed to run the capacity down meaningfully. The TR-3's cradle will top-up the pack whenever the scanner is docked briefly, which conditions the cell toward reduced effective capacity over time. To recondition, run the scanner on a full shift without docking mid-shift, then charge fully from near-depleted — repeat this two to three times and effective capacity typically recovers toward the rated 2500mAh.
