Fits Intermec CV30 and CV30_x000D handheld scanners; replaces OEM part AB5.
3.7V 3400mAh Li-ion cell delivers full barcode capture and wireless transmission without mid-shift power loss.
Connector slots into scanner battery compartment with positive terminal forward; locking tab secures pack against ejection during drop.
We bench-tested this cell in a CV30 dock charger; BMS accepted full voltage handshake and held stable discharge under rapid scan-and-transmit cycles.
After install, place the scanner in its cradle for one complete charge cycle before fieldwork — the scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell sits near minimum voltage and a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS trips on first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec CV30 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AB5)

This is a 3.7V Li-ion 3400mAh replacement battery for the Intermec CV30 mobile computer. It fits the CV30 series handheld barcode scanner used in warehouse, inventory, and retail environments. The OEM part number is AB5.

  • CV30 platform fit: The CV30 runs a single-cell Li-ion pack at 3.7V with a specific BMS handshake through the battery contacts. This replacement matches that voltage rail and connector footprint so the device firmware recognises the pack without throwing a battery fault.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on a CV30 unit, verifying BMS communication, contact continuity, and cutoff behaviour at low-voltage threshold. The protection circuit responded correctly at both ends of the charge curve.
  • First-shift preparation for pick-and-pack use: After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a complete charge cycle before putting it into rotation. The scan trigger draws peak inrush current — highest when the cell is near minimum — and a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first shift.

Cradle showing charging error on a new AB5 pack

A charging error on a new pack is almost always a contact resistance issue, not a faulty battery. The CV30 cradle reads the pack through spring-loaded dock contacts that accumulate oxidation and debris over time. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly. If the error clears, the pack was never the problem.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The CV30 draws current simultaneously from its radio module and scan trigger during a rapid burst sequence. When a degraded or partially charged battery can't sustain voltage under that combined load, the radio drops before the scan engine does — the result looks like a connectivity fault, not a power fault. The fix is to ensure the replacement pack is fully charged before the shift starts. A cell at 3.7V nominal under load should hold above 3.4V during burst; anything lower will trigger the radio cutoff first.

Frequently Asked Questions

The CV30 barcode scanner stopped reading after I swapped the battery — the laser fires but nothing scans

The scan engine needs a minimum sustained voltage to drive the laser or imager at full power. If the new pack wasn't charged before installation, the cell voltage under scan-trigger inrush can dip below the engine's operating threshold even though the device appears on. Place the scanner in its cradle and charge the AB5 pack fully before scanning — the read failures should stop once the cell is above 3.6V resting voltage.

The CV30 runs warm after a long shift and then shuts off unexpectedly

Sustained scan-and-transmit cycles in an enclosed housing heat the cell faster than intermittent use. When the pack temperature exceeds the BMS thermal threshold, it triggers a protective cutoff — this is the circuit working correctly, not a battery defect. Let the scanner cool for ten minutes with the back cover unobstructed, then power it back on. If this happens repeatedly on short shifts, check whether the cradle contacts are charging the pack fully between rotations.

The CV30 shows a full charge indicator on the screen but dies partway through the shift

A Li-ion cell that has been deep-discharged or left flat for an extended period loses calibration between the fuel gauge IC and the actual cell state. The device reports full because the BMS hasn't re-calibrated its capacity map yet. Run two complete charge-to-discharge-to-charge cycles — full charge in cradle, use until low-battery warning, full charge again — and the gauge reading will re-align with real capacity.
