Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec PB2 / PB3 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AB27 / 318-040-001)
This is a 7.4V, 2600mAh Li-ion battery for the Intermec PB2, PB3, PB2A, and FieldPro handheld barcode scanners. It replaces OEM part numbers AB27 and 318-040-001. If your scanner is dying mid-shift or failing to power on, this pack restores it to full operating capacity.
- PB2 / PB3 / PB2A / FieldPro platform fit: These models share the same 7.4V battery architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers the entire line without modification or adapter.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through simulated scan-burst and wireless polling loads. The BMS held stable across repeated trigger inrush events and maintained cutoff thresholds within spec across the full discharge curve.
- First-shift prep for pick-and-pack operations: Before putting this pack into a high-frequency scanning rotation, seat it in the charging cradle for a complete charge cycle first. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum charge — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips at the start of a shift.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new AB27 pack
Intermec cradles use contact resistance to verify pack seating before initiating a charge cycle. A new pack with oxidised or dusty contacts can read as a fault even though the battery itself is fine. The cradle will display a charging error or flash an amber LED rather than beginning the charge sequence. Wipe the gold contacts on the pack and the cradle bay with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and the cradle should begin charging within 10 seconds.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
During rapid barcode scanning, the radio module and the scan trigger fire simultaneously, producing a combined inrush current spike that a low or degraded pack cannot sustain cleanly. The BMS momentarily restricts output to protect the cells, and the radio drops its connection to the access point. This is not a network or firmware issue — it is a power delivery symptom. Charge the pack to at least 4.1V per cell (full charge) before use, and the combined draw stays within the BMS's continuous output threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions
My PB2 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I put the new battery in — what's wrong?
The imager or laser in the PB2 requires a minimum voltage threshold to fire reliably, and a new pack shipped at partial charge may sit just below that threshold under load. This makes the scanner appear functional — it powers on, the display works — but the scan engine won't trigger consistently. Seat the pack in the cradle for a full charge cycle before use, then retry scanning. A fully charged pack holds 8.4V open-circuit and delivers enough sustained voltage to keep the scan engine stable through a full shift.
The scanner runs noticeably warm after a few hours of continuous scanning — is that a battery issue?
Sustained heat in the PB2 housing during long shifts comes from two simultaneous draws: the wireless radio polling the access point continuously and the scan trigger firing repeatedly. Both pull current through the same pack, and the combined load generates heat inside a sealed plastic housing with no active cooling. This is normal at high scan frequencies, but if the pack itself feels hot to the touch after removal — not just warm — the cells may be degrading and holding less charge than rated. Check the resting voltage after a full charge; it should read 8.3–8.4V. Anything below 8.0V at rest on a full charge indicates cell wear.
The scanner endurance dropped noticeably compared to our old battery — same model, same shifts — why?
Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval both directly affect how fast the pack depletes — they're higher-draw events than simply leaving the scanner idle. If your team increased scan frequency, switched to a more aggressive wireless polling setting, or added a new application that keeps the backlight on longer, the same 2600mAh capacity will deplete faster under that heavier load. Check wireless polling intervals in the scanner's network settings and reduce backlight timeout if it's set to always-on. If usage patterns haven't changed, verify the replacement pack charges to a full 8.4V before concluding it's underperforming.
