Honor 30 / 30S — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery

This 3.85V, 3850mAh (14.82Wh) lithium-polymer cell fits the Honor 30 and Honor 30S smartphones. It replaces the original cell when capacity has degraded and the phone can no longer hold a full charge. Dimensions are 81.40 × 63.30 × 4.50mm — measure your existing cell before fitting.

  • Honor 30 and 30S shared cell: Both models run the same battery bay dimensions and connector pinout, so one cell covers either board revision. The BMS handshake protocol is identical across both variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Honor 30 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the charge IC ramped current normally through the CC/CV stages.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle at standard current. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before the coulomb counter locks in its reference points. Skipping this step is the main cause of inaccurate percentage readings post-swap.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Honor 30 after a cell swap

A new cell has a slightly different voltage-versus-capacity curve than the original. The fuel gauge IC still references the old curve, so it thinks 25% remains when the cell voltage is already near cutoff. Under load — screen at full brightness or a 5G modem burst — the cell voltage drops below the BMS floor and the phone shuts off instantly. One full discharge cycle recalibrates the coulomb counter to the new curve. After that cycle, the percentage reading and actual shutdown point align.

USB-PD fast charge not activating on the first cycle after replacement

Honor's proprietary fast-charge protocol involves a handshake between the charger, the charge IC, and the BMS. On the first cycle with a new cell, the BMS may default to standard 5V charging while it validates the cell. This is a protective measure, not a fault. Charge fully once at standard rate, then reconnect with the original Honor fast charger. The handshake completes normally from the second cycle onward.

This is a voltage sag problem, not a faulty cell. The fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, so it reads 30% when the actual cell voltage is already close to the BMS cutoff floor. Under the GPU or modem load of a heavy app, the voltage drops fast enough to trip the cutoff. Run one complete discharge to near-zero, then charge to 100% at standard rate — the coulomb counter resets to the new curve and the shutdowns stop.

The Honor 30 shows 100% charge but the percentage drops to 80% within minutes of unplugging — is the replacement cell faulty?

Not necessarily. The fuel gauge IC learned the original cell's charge curve over hundreds of cycles. With a new cell installed, those reference points are wrong, so the reported percentage jumps erratically until the IC recalibrates. This is a software measurement issue, not a cell capacity issue. Do one full discharge-to-zero followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% — after that single cycle, the reported and actual charge levels track correctly.

Phone gets noticeably warm near the battery during the first few charges after fitting the replacement — is this normal?

Yes, for the first two to three charge cycles. A new lithium-polymer cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC dissipates more energy as heat while pushing current into it. The warmth is in the charge IC and cell, not the connector. It settles after the cell completes a few cycles and impedance drops. If the phone still runs hot after five full cycles, check that the replacement cell dimensions match the bay — a compressed cell retains heat. Rated cell thickness for this fit is 4.50mm.
