Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hoover SU180 Series — 18V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (49005889)
This is an 18V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery pack for the Hoover SU180 cordless stick vacuum. It fits the SU180, SU180B8, SU180T2, and SU180WT models. The pack slots into the same housing position as the original and connects to the same motor drive circuit.
- SU180 model family fit: All listed SU180 variants run the same 18V motor rail and use the same battery housing and connector orientation. One pack covers the full range — no wiring or adapter changes needed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated load tests against the SU180 motor circuit. The BMS held voltage steadily under sustained suction load and cut off cleanly when cells reached the lower discharge threshold.
- Dock charging habit on the SU180: The SU180 charging dock does not stop delivering current when the pack is full. Leaving the vacuum docked permanently causes trickle charge heat buildup in the Ni-MH cells. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.
Cordless vacuum losing suction before the battery indicator reaches low
On the SU180, suction loss under a full charge usually points to voltage sag at the motor rather than actual cell depletion. When the filter is partially blocked, the motor draws more current than rated to maintain airflow. This extra draw pulls cell voltage down faster than the indicator circuit expects, so the motor underperforms while the display still shows charge remaining. Clean or replace the filter first — if suction recovers immediately, the cells are fine.
Motor cutting out mid-clean and recovering after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When the SU180 runs over heavy carpet or a restricted floor surface, suction resistance spikes and the motor pulls current above the BMS threshold. The BMS disconnects to protect the cells, which is why the motor stops and then restarts after 15–30 seconds once current demand drops. Clear any blockage in the nozzle or hose, clean the filter, and retest. If the cutout stops occurring, the fault was restriction-driven, not cell failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Hoover SU180 has a new battery but the charger light just flashes and never shows a full charge — what's wrong?
Ni-MH packs that have been deeply discharged can confuse some chargers into a fault state because the resting voltage sits below the threshold the charger uses to start a normal charge cycle. Remove the battery from the dock, wait two minutes, then reinsert it — this resets the charger's detection cycle. If the fault light clears and charging begins, the pack was simply at a very low starting voltage. If the flashing continues after three reinsertion attempts, check that the charger output is delivering 18V at the contacts before assuming the battery is the problem.
The SU180 runs for a much shorter time than it used to, even with a fully charged replacement pack — is the filter the cause?
A partially blocked filter is the most common cause of shortened run on the SU180 after a battery swap. When airflow is restricted, the motor compensates by drawing higher current, which depletes the 2000mAh pack faster than the rated discharge curve. Check the filter — hold it up to a light source; if you cannot see light through it clearly, wash or replace it. After fitting a clean filter, run a full charge and retest before concluding the replacement pack has low capacity.
The SU180 suction feels weak immediately after a full charge — is this a battery problem or something else?
Weak suction straight off a full charge on the SU180 is almost never a battery capacity issue — the pack is full and voltage is at its peak. The most likely cause is a blockage in the nozzle, hose, or dustbin seal, which starves the motor of airflow regardless of charge state. Remove the dustbin, clear the inlet path, and check that the dustbin lid seals flush. If suction recovers with the dustbin removed but not with it fitted, the seal or inlet port is the fault, not the battery.
