Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP Chromebook X2 — 7.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (CH04XL)
This is a 7.7V, 6200mAh (47.74Wh) Li-Polymer replacement battery for the HP Chromebook X2 2-in-1 convertible. It fits the 12-F000NA, 12-F014DX, 12-F004NF, and related X2 12 series tablets. OEM part numbers include CH04XL, 941190-1C1, 941617-855, and HSTNN-IB8E.
- Chromebook X2 12-series fit: These models share the same detachable tablet chassis, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Any X2 12-F variant running the same board revision accepts this cell without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Chromebook X2 12-F014DX. The BMS negotiated correctly, charge termination triggered at 100%, and the protection circuit tripped normally at low-voltage cutoff.
- First cycle after installation: Run the tablet down to auto-shutdown — not just sleep — then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces ChromeOS to complete a battery learn cycle and clears the false "poor health" or "unknown battery" warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform.
Why ChromeOS reports poor battery health after fitting a new cell
The Chromebook X2 stores battery health data in EEPROM on the BMS. When a new cell goes in, that EEPROM data reflects the old cell's wear history, not the new one. ChromeOS reads that stored value and flags the battery as degraded even though the cell is fresh. One complete learn cycle — full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then a full uninterrupted charge — rewrites the EEPROM baseline and clears the warning. After two or three cycles, the fuel gauge IC recalibrates to the new cell's actual capacity.
Chromebook X2 shutting down at 20–30% remaining after battery swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still mapped to the old cell's voltage-to-capacity curve. Under combined CPU and display load, the new cell's voltage drops faster than the uncalibrated gauge expects, and the system hits its hardware undervoltage cutoff before the displayed percentage reaches zero. It is not a fault with the replacement cell. Run two full discharge-to-shutdown and full recharge cycles — each time letting the device reach forced shutdown, not sleep — and the gauge will remap to the correct voltage curve, typically stabilising the shutdown point below 5%.

Frequently Asked Questions
ChromeOS shows the battery as "unknown" or stuck at 0% right after I put the new cell in — is the battery dead?
No. The fuel gauge IC on the X2 loses its reference point when the cell is swapped and cannot report state-of-charge until it completes a calibration cycle. Plug the tablet in and let it charge uninterrupted to 100%, then run it down to auto-shutdown. After one full cycle the gauge re-establishes its baseline and the percentage reads correctly.
The battery info page in ChromeOS shows a Wh rating that doesn't match the 47.74Wh listed on the replacement — is something wrong?
The Wh value ChromeOS displays is pulled from EEPROM data written during the original factory calibration, not measured live from the new cell. The EEPROM value reflects the old cell's rated chemistry and may differ from the replacement's actual specification. This is a data mismatch, not a hardware fault. After two full learn cycles the system updates its energy accounting and the displayed Wh figure aligns with actual cell capacity.
The charge stops at around 80% and won't go higher no matter how long it stays plugged in — how do I fix that?
This is a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a battery fault. HP's firmware on some X2 units ships with a battery care setting that caps charge at 80% to reduce cell stress during extended AC use. Open the HP firmware settings or check the HP Support Assistant utility for a "Battery Care" or "Adaptive Battery" toggle and disable it. Once that setting is off, the next charge cycle will run to 100%.
