Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP EliteBook 8460p — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (628369-421)

This 10.8V, 6600mAh (71.28Wh) lithium-ion battery replaces the original cell in the HP EliteBook 8460p and compatible models including the EliteBook 8460w, 8470p, and 6360t Mobile Thin Client. It matches the original voltage rail and connector pinout. Capacity figure is from product data — not estimated.

  • EliteBook 8460-series platform fit: The 8460p, 8460w, and 8470p share the same 10.8V power rail, six-cell bay, and Smart Battery System connector. One cell covers the group because the BMS handshake and pin layout are identical across those chassis generations.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the 8460p platform. The BMS communicated correctly — charge current stepped down at the expected threshold and the fuel gauge IC read the cell without throwing an unknown-device error.
  • First-cycle calibration on the 8460p: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to the hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle on the 8460p and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after fitting a new cell

The EliteBook 8460p BIOS reads health data from the battery's EEPROM on first contact. The old cell's charge cycle count and wear data are gone, so the BIOS flags the new cell as unknown or degraded until it completes a learn cycle. This is a firmware handshake issue — not a defect in the replacement cell. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then a full uninterrupted charge. After that cycle, the BIOS learn routine recalibrates and the health warning clears.

EliteBook 8460p shutting down at 20–30% charge shown

This happens when the cell cannot sustain voltage under combined CPU and display load — the voltage drops off a cliff faster than the fuel gauge IC predicted. The gauge was calibrated against the old, degraded cell, so its remaining-charge estimate is wrong for the new cell's discharge curve. The fix is the same calibration cycle: discharge fully to hibernate cutoff, charge to 100% without interruption. After two full cycles the fuel gauge IC maps the new cell's curve accurately and the early shutdowns stop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does HP Battery Check still show "Replace" after I installed a brand-new cell?

The EliteBook 8460p reads health status from EEPROM data written by the old cell — the new cell has no charge history yet, so the BIOS flags it immediately. This is a learn-cycle gap, not a faulty battery. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After that cycle, HP Battery Check updates its reading and the "Replace" warning clears.

The fuel gauge jumps around wildly for the first few days — is the cell defective?

The fuel gauge IC on the 8460p calibrates its remaining-charge model against the discharge curve of whichever cell it last learned. A new cell has a different curve, so estimates are inaccurate until the IC recalibrates. We saw the same behaviour on the bench — large jumps in reported percentage during the first two cycles. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate, charge-to-100% cycles and the gauge stabilises.

Windows is showing 71Wh but HP's system info reports a lower Wh figure — which is correct?

The Wh figure in HP's system information is pulled from the EEPROM on the battery, which stores the rated capacity of the original OEM cell — that value does not update automatically when you fit a replacement. The actual usable capacity of this cell is 71.28Wh at 10.8V and 6600mAh. Ignore the EEPROM-sourced figure in system info; after one full calibration cycle, the fuel gauge reading in Windows will reflect the real available energy more accurately.
