Fast charging not available after battery swap

If the Pro Slate 12 reverts to standard charge speed after a battery replacement, the USB-PD negotiation cycle is the likely cause. The tablet's charge IC sometimes requires one completed charge cycle before it re-enables the higher-current profile with a new cell. Plug into the original HP charger, let the tablet charge fully without interruption, then unplug and repeat — the second cycle typically restores normal charge rate. If fast charge still does not return, confirm the charger output meets the tablet's USB-PD voltage and wattage spec before swapping any other components.

My HP Pro Slate 12 now shows the wrong battery percentage after I put in a new battery — is something wrong with the replacement?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the old battery's charge curve and needs one full cycle to map against the new one. Discharge the tablet to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using it. That single cycle resets the reference point and the percentage reading stabilises.

The Pro Slate 12 is shutting off at around 20% — it never did this with the old battery.

This is a voltage-sag cutoff, not a faulty cell. Under the combined load of the display and WiFi, battery voltage drops sharply near the bottom of the charge curve and crosses the BMS cutoff threshold before the gauge reaches zero. Run one full discharge to automatic shutoff followed by a complete uninterrupted charge to 100%. If the shutdown point moves noticeably lower after that cycle, the gauge is now calibrated correctly.

The tablet feels warm while charging the new battery — should I be concerned?

Mild warmth during the first few charge cycles is normal. The charge IC on a freshly installed cell draws slightly higher current while the BMS establishes its internal resistance baseline, which generates low-level heat. If the tablet becomes hot to the touch or the charge stops prematurely, check that the charger output matches HP's rated voltage for the Pro Slate 12 and that the USB-PD handshake is completing — a mismatched charger forces unregulated current through the charge IC.
