Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP ZBook 15 / ZBook 17 — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AR08XL)
This is a 14.4V, 4400mAh (63.36Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the HP ZBook 15 and ZBook 17 mobile workstations. It fits multiple ZBook configurations across both generations, including units identified by OEM part numbers AR08XL, VH08XL, and HSTNN-IB4H among others. Install it when the original cell can no longer hold charge or when the BIOS flags battery health as critical.
- ZBook 15 and ZBook 17 shared battery platform: HP used the same 14.4V eight-cell architecture and connector pinout across the ZBook 15 and ZBook 17 lines during this generation. The BMS handshake uses identical EEPROM identifiers, so one cell fits both chassis without firmware conflicts.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge, discharge, and BMS communication checks on ZBook hardware. The protection circuit responded correctly to charge termination and over-discharge cutoff at the expected voltage thresholds.
- ZBook calibration cycle after install: After fitting this battery, run the ZBook down to hibernate cutoff under normal workstation load, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.
BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after replacement
The ZBook BIOS reads capacity and cycle data stored in the old cell's EEPROM. When a new cell goes in, that data is blank or mismatched, so the BIOS flags health as poor or unknown — even though the cell is new. This is not a battery fault. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the BIOS learn cycle to rewrite its reference data against the actual new cell. After one or two of these cycles, the health warning clears and the gauge stabilises.
ZBook shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The gauge was trained on the old, degraded cell, so it misreads the new cell's state of charge and triggers a shutdown well before the cell is genuinely empty. It is not a faulty battery. Run two to three complete discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles back to back, and the fuel gauge IC will recalibrate. After calibration, shutdown under load should not occur until the cell reaches approximately 3.0V per cell at the pack level.

Frequently Asked Questions
The system information page shows the wrong Wh rating after I installed this battery — it says something different from the original. Is the cell faulty?
No — this is an EEPROM mismatch, not a faulty cell. The ZBook reads Wh rating from data written in the battery's EEPROM, and the value stored on a replacement cell can differ from what HP's system info screen expects for your specific SKU. The actual chemistry and rated capacity are correct at 63.36Wh. Run a full discharge-to-hibernate cycle then charge to 100%, and the BIOS will update its stored reference to match the installed cell.
My ZBook charge stops at 80% and never climbs higher — the battery just sits there.
This is a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a battery fault. HP ZBook firmware includes an adaptive charging mode that caps charge at 80% to reduce cell stress during long periods on AC power. Check BIOS under Power → Battery Health Manager and switch from "Maximize my battery health" to "Let HP manage my battery charging" or "Full charge." Once that setting is changed, the next charge cycle will run to 100%.
After a full charge the fuel gauge reads 100%, but within minutes of unplugging it drops to 60% and then stabilises. What is happening?
The fuel gauge IC is still running its calibration against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The old cell's degraded curve was baked into the gauge's reference model, so the first few readings after a swap are inaccurate and jump around. This is not a capacity problem with the replacement cell. Run two to three complete discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted full-charge cycles — by the third cycle the gauge IC recalibrates and the reading at unplug should track accurately from 100% down.
