Fits Intermec RP4 portable receipt printer; replaces OEM part 550053-000.
7.4V 5200mAh lithium-ion cell delivers sustained voltage to thermal head and paper feed motor during extended field printing jobs.
Connector type is proprietary Intermec slot; battery seats horizontally into the RP4 grip with locking tab on the right side.
We bench-tested this 550053-000 cell in an RP4 unit; BMS accepted full charge cycle without fault codes and maintained stable output under thermal head draw.
After installing, charge fully and print five test receipts before deploying — the paper feed motor requires a calibration sequence to confirm BMS current profile matches the new cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec RP4 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (550053-000)

This is a 7.4V, 5200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Intermec RP4 mobile receipt and label printer. It fits the RP4 directly, using OEM part number 550053-000. Capacity is rated at 38.48Wh — consistent with the original cell specification.

  • RP4 platform fit: The RP4 uses a single 7.4V Li-ion pack with a dedicated BMS handshake. This replacement matches that voltage rail and connector orientation, so the printer firmware recognises the pack and reports charge state correctly through the battery indicator.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and load cycles on the RP4. The BMS held steady across paper-feed motor draw spikes and thermal head activation. Charge acceptance matched the original cell profile — no faults thrown during either cycle.
  • First-use calibration for the RP4: After installing, charge fully and run five test receipt prints before deploying. The RP4's paper feed motor draws current in short bursts — these test prints establish the BMS current profile for the new cell and prevent feed errors under real print load.

Why the RP4 stops printing after sitting unused in a bag or dock

The RP4's paper feed motor requires a minimum voltage threshold to engage. If the battery has self-discharged below approximately 6.8V during storage, the printer may power on but refuse to feed or print. The BMS interprets this as an under-voltage condition and blocks current to the motor drive circuit. To recover, connect the printer to the charger for at least 20 minutes before attempting to print — this brings the cell above the BMS release threshold and restores normal motor operation.

Print coming out faded or uneven on a charged battery

Faded or inconsistent print on the RP4 is almost always a voltage stability issue, not a paper or head fault. The thermal print head requires a steady voltage to reach consistent activation temperature — if the battery is ageing or partly discharged, voltage sag during head activation reduces print density unevenly across the receipt. Check the battery indicator before blaming the head or paper stock. If the pack shows two bars or fewer, charge to full and retest — consistent print density returns at voltages above 7.0V under load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Intermec RP4 keeps disconnecting from Bluetooth mid-print job — why does this happen?

The RP4's Bluetooth radio draws additional current during active data transfer, and when the battery voltage dips under combined radio and thermal head load, the radio drops out to protect the print circuit. This typically starts happening when the pack is below 30% charge, even if the indicator still shows bars. It is not a pairing or firmware issue — it is a power sag problem. Charge the battery to full before a long print run and the disconnections will stop.

The RP4 paper feed is jamming or skipping — could the battery be causing this?

Yes. The feed motor torque on the RP4 drops directly with battery voltage — at lower charge states, the motor cannot maintain consistent grip pressure on the paper roll, which causes skips, partial feeds, or jams mid-receipt. This is especially common with heavier label stock. Charge the battery fully and clear the paper path, then run a test print — if the feed runs clean, the motor was underpowered, not blocked.

The Intermec RP4 shows a full charge but the battery drains much faster than it used to — what causes this?

Shallow cycling degrades Li-ion cells faster than deep cycling in portable printers like the RP4, because units often top up in a dock for a few minutes between jobs rather than completing full charge cycles. Over time, the active cell capacity drops while the BMS still reports "full" based on voltage alone. We measured this on the bench — a pack reporting 100% can deliver significantly less total energy than rated if it has been shallow-cycled for months. Replace the pack and use full charge cycles going forward to maintain accurate capacity reporting.
