Iris Ohyama SCD-120P Series — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CBL10820)
This is a 10.8V, 1900mAh Li-ion battery pack for the Iris Ohyama SCD-120P and related cordless stick vacuums. It replaces OEM part CBL10820 and fits the SCD-121P, SCD-L1P, SCD-160P, and several additional models in the same platform. Capacity matches the original specification — 20.52Wh.
- SCD-120P platform compatibility: The SCD-120P, SCD-121P, SCD-L1P, and SCD-160P all share the same 10.8V battery rail, connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell fits across the range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the SCD-120P platform. The BMS responded correctly to motor-start current draw and did not trigger false overcurrent cutoffs under normal suction load.
- Dock charging on stick vacuums: Do not leave the SCD-120P sitting on its charging dock permanently. Continuous trickle charging on this platform accelerates capacity fade faster than deliberate charge cycles. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
The SCD-120P motor controller reduces power output when pack voltage sags under load — not when the indicator LED changes state. A partially blocked filter increases motor draw, which pulls voltage down faster than the indicator tracks. The result is noticeable suction loss while the battery still reads as charged. Clear the filter first, then test — if suction holds steady, the battery was not the issue.
Motor cuts out mid-clean then recovers after a few seconds
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When the suction path is restricted — blocked brush roll, clogged post-motor filter, or a sealed floor nozzle — sustained current draw exceeds the BMS threshold and the pack shuts the circuit. After a few seconds the BMS resets and the motor restarts. Check and clear every filter stage before concluding the battery is faulty. If the trip still occurs on a clear machine, verify pack voltage under load stays above 9.5V.

The battery indicator on the SCD-120P tracks state of charge, not voltage under load. When the filter is partially blocked, the motor pulls harder, pack voltage sags early, and the controller cuts power — all before the LED reflects it. Clean every filter stage first. If suction holds after that, the battery is not the fault.
The motor on my SCD-120P cuts out for a few seconds then kicks back in — is this the battery failing?
That behaviour is a BMS overcurrent trip, not cell failure. Restricted airflow — a blocked brush roll or clogged filter — causes sustained current spikes that push the pack past its cutoff threshold. The BMS resets after a short delay and the motor restarts. Clear the suction path completely, then run the vacuum again. If trips continue on a clean machine, check that pack voltage under load holds above 9.5V.
My replacement CBL10820 battery faded fast — it barely holds charge after a few months. What caused it?
Continuous dock charging is the most common cause on this platform. Leaving the SCD-120P seated on the charger after the pack reaches full charge applies a sustained low-level current that degrades cell capacity over weeks. Charge the battery fully, remove it from the dock, and only return it when the pack is depleted. That cycle pattern significantly slows capacity loss on 10.8V Li-ion packs like the CBL10820.
