Fits Klarstein M-288 and Cleanfriend Cleaner M-488 cordless stick vacuums as a direct replacement battery pack.
Delivers 14.4V and 4000mAh capacity; this Ni-MH chemistry sustains motor voltage under carpet load without sag dips.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We bench-tested this cell on a M-288 motor draw; the BMS accepted full current on blockage simulation without early cutoff.
Remove the battery from the dock immediately after charging to full — continuous trickle charging degrades Ni-MH capacity within weeks.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Klarstein M-288 / M-488 Cleanfriend — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 14.4V, 4000mAh Ni-MH battery pack for the Klarstein M-288 and Cleanfriend Cleaner M-488 cordless stick vacuums. It replaces the original pack when capacity has faded or the unit no longer holds a charge. Dimensions are 179 × 51 × 52mm — confirm these against your existing pack before ordering.

  • M-288 and M-488 compatibility: Both models run the same 14.4V cell stack with an identical connector and housing footprint, so one pack covers both units. The BMS inside manages cell balancing across the Ni-MH stack and handles overcurrent cutoff during high-draw cleaning passes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated charge and discharge sequences, confirming the BMS trips correctly under sustained overcurrent load and recovers cleanly once the draw returns to normal. Cell voltages balanced within spec across the full stack.
  • Dock charging habit on this vacuum: Do not leave the M-288 or M-488 sitting on the charging dock permanently. Ni-MH cells on continuous trickle charge develop capacity fade significantly faster than cells charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove the unit from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

On the M-288 and M-488, suction loss ahead of a low-battery warning is almost always a voltage sag issue rather than a failing cell. A partially blocked filter forces the motor to draw above its rated current. The BMS responds by throttling output voltage to protect the stack, which the user experiences as suction dropping off. Clear the filter first — if suction recovers immediately, the battery was not the cause.

Motor cuts out mid-clean then comes back on its own

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a wiring fault. When airflow is restricted — blocked filter, full dustbin, or a floor-head clog — the motor pulls a sustained current spike that exceeds the BMS threshold. The BMS cuts the circuit, the motor stops, and once current drops the BMS resets automatically. Fix the restriction first. If the cutouts continue with a clear filter and empty bin, verify battery voltage under load is holding above 12V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Klarstein M-288 loses suction well before the battery light comes on — is this a battery problem or something else?

Usually it is not the battery. A partially blocked filter forces the motor to draw above its rated current, which causes the BMS to sag output voltage — and that reads as lost suction even with charge remaining. Clean the filter and empty the dustbin first. If suction returns immediately, the battery was never the issue.

The motor on my M-488 keeps cutting out for a few seconds then restarting on its own — what is causing that?

That is a BMS overcurrent trip. Sustained restricted airflow drives a current spike the BMS cannot pass, so it cuts the motor circuit briefly and resets once current falls. Check the filter, floor-head, and dustbin for blockages before replacing the battery. If cutouts continue with everything clear, load-test the battery — voltage under motor-start draw should not drop below 12V.

My replacement Ni-MH battery is fading much faster than expected after only a few months — what went wrong?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of early capacity fade in Ni-MH vacuum packs. Trickle current through a full Ni-MH stack accelerates cell degradation faster than it does in lithium chemistry. Remove the vacuum from the dock as soon as the charge cycle completes. Charge only when the pack is meaningfully depleted — not after every short cleaning pass.
