Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Leica Sofort Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-DC17)
This is a 3.7V, 660mAh lithium-ion cell replacing the OEM BP-DC17 in the Leica Sofort, Sofort Instant Film, and Sofort SP2 cameras. It powers the flash capacitor, autofocus motor, and exposure control circuits. When the original cell degrades, flash recycling slows and shot count drops — this replacement restores those systems to normal draw levels.
- Sofort, Sofort Instant Film, and Sofort SP2 compatibility: All three models share the BP-DC17 footprint, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. The same 3.7V voltage rail runs the flash charging circuit and the film advance motor across the entire Sofort line.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on Sofort body hardware and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without rejection flags. Flash recycled normally and the indicator cleared on the first charge cycle completed inside the camera body.
- First-use charge protocol for Sofort bodies: Insert this cell and charge it fully inside the camera body before shooting. The Sofort BMS maps battery-remaining thresholds during the first in-body charge cycle — skipping this step causes the indicator to read inaccurately until the cycle completes.
Flash output dropping mid-shoot on a new BP-DC17 replacement
The Sofort flash capacitor pulls a high recharge current after every exposure. If the replacement cell has not completed a full in-body charge cycle, the BMS may apply a conservative current ceiling during that first session. This reduces the capacitor recharge rate and creates longer recycling delays between shots. After one complete charge cycle inside the camera body, the BMS lifts that ceiling and flash recycling returns to normal speed.
Battery percentage jumping erratically on the Sofort display
The Sofort maps its remaining-charge indicator to a fixed voltage-threshold table calibrated on the OEM cell's discharge curve. A new replacement cell discharges on a slightly different curve until the BMS has logged one full cycle. During that break-in session, the indicator reads across mismatched thresholds and jumps in uneven steps. Charge the cell to 100% inside the camera body, shoot until the low-battery warning appears, then charge fully again. After that single cycle, the indicator tracks normally at 4.2V full and steps down predictably.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Leica Sofort shows a dead battery icon immediately after I installed the new BP-DC17 — is the cell faulty?
The Sofort BMS runs an authentication check on first install and will display a dead or no-battery icon if it hasn't completed a charge handshake with the new cell. Insert the battery and charge it fully inside the camera body using the OEM cable before attempting to power on and shoot. In most cases the icon clears before the charge completes. If it persists after one full charge cycle, power-cycle the camera body with the battery seated.
The shot count on this replacement feels lower than what the original battery delivered — why?
The Sofort's flash capacitor, autofocus, and film advance motor all draw from the same 660mAh cell simultaneously on every shot. In cold conditions below around 10°C, lithium-ion cells deliver less usable capacity from the same rated mAh, which compounds the draw from the flash circuit. Keep the camera body at room temperature between shots in cold environments. A fully charged cell at 4.2V in a warm pocket between exposures will deliver noticeably more shots per charge than one left cold.
The flash on my Sofort isn't fully recycling between shots — I have to wait longer than usual before the ready light comes on.
Slow flash recycling means the capacitor isn't recharging fast enough between exposures, which points to either a partially discharged cell or a BMS current ceiling still active on a new replacement. Check the battery indicator — if it shows anything below half charge, the capacitor recharge current drops significantly. If the cell reads full and recycling is still slow, complete one full charge-discharge cycle inside the camera body to let the BMS remove the conservative current ceiling it applies to uncalibrated cells.
