BIOS reporting poor battery health after replacement on the Y450

The Y450 BIOS reads health data from EEPROM registers that were written by the original cell. Laptop shuts down at 20–30% shown on the fuel gauge after swap

This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated against the old cell's discharge curve. The new cell hits a voltage cliff under combined CPU and display load before the OS gauge reaches zero, triggering a hard shutdown. The gauge and the actual cell capacity are out of sync. Complete two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and full charge cycles — the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell and the shutdowns stop once the readings align.

The 4400mAh, 48.84Wh rating in the product data is the actual cell capacity. After two or three full charge and discharge cycles, the fuel gauge IC recalibrates and the reported figure moves closer to the real value.

The new battery stopped charging at 80% and won't go higher — how do I fix it?

The Y450 BIOS includes a charge-limit function that caps charging at 80% when conservation mode is active. Open Lenovo Vantage or the older Energy Management utility, navigate to battery settings, and confirm conservation mode is switched off. Once disabled, initiate a fresh charge cycle — the battery will charge to 100V without any change to the cell itself.
