This is a 14.8V, 4400mAh (65.12Wh) nickel-cadmium replacement battery for the LION Sarasota Artworker 8599 and 8399 series notebook computers. It slots into the same bay as the original pack and uses the same connector. Voltage and capacity match the OEM specification exactly.

  • Sarasota 8399 and 8599 compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 14.8V power rail. The BMS handshake protocol is identical across the 8399 and 8599 variants, so one cell fits both without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the Sarasota platform. The BMS accepted the cell on first insertion, reported state-of-charge correctly after two calibration cycles, and held voltage above the low-battery cutoff threshold through sustained CPU and display load.
  • First-cycle conditioning for Ni-CD: Ni-CD cells need a full discharge-to-cutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% before the BIOS battery learn cycle can read the pack accurately. Skip this step and the fuel gauge IC will display erratic percentages for weeks. Run it once on day one.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after fitting the new cell

The Sarasota BIOS stores capacity data in EEPROM from the previous pack. When a new cell goes in, that stored data no longer matches the actual chemistry, so the health indicator flags an error — even on a brand new battery. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by a complete uninterrupted charge; this triggers the battery learn cycle and rewrites the EEPROM values against the new cell. After two full cycles the health status clears and the indicator reads correctly.

Laptop shutting down at 20–30% remaining shown on screen

This happens when the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under full CPU and display load, even though the fuel gauge IC is still showing charge remaining. The gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The shutdown appears premature, but the cell is hitting its floor — typically around 10.8V under load on a 14.8V Ni-CD pack. Run two complete discharge-to-hibernate cycles and charge fully each time; the fuel gauge IC re-maps the voltage curve and the premature shutdown stops.

The fuel gauge IC calibrates its percentage readings against a voltage profile built up over charge cycles. With a fresh Ni-CD cell, it has no stored curve to work from, so it interpolates badly and the displayed percentage swings wildly. This settles after two full discharge-to-100%-charge cycles. After the second cycle the gauge IC has enough data to track the new cell's voltage curve accurately and the readings stabilise.

System information shows this battery as 48Wh but the replacement cell is rated 65.12Wh — which figure is correct?

The 48Wh figure comes from the EEPROM data written by the original factory cell; it reflects that cell's rated Wh, not the replacement's. The replacement cell is 65.12Wh — that is the correct figure for this pack. The system info readout will not update automatically; run the BIOS battery learn cycle (full discharge to hibernate, then full uninterrupted charge to 100%) and the reported Wh value will overwrite to match the installed cell.
