Fits Lucent 1231, 2231, 2419, 2420 cordless handsets; replaces original 3.6V Ni-MH packs.
3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers adequate talk and standby time across all compatible handset models.
Connector slides straight into handset battery slot with positive contact facing the spring; no polarity reversal possible.
We bench tested this cell in a 1231 base unit; BMS accepted voltage at first insertion with zero fault cycling.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use—Ni-MH cordless batteries need a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lucent 1231 / 2420 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for Lucent cordless phone handsets including the 1231, 2231, 2419, and 2420 series, among others. It replaces the original handset cell when charge no longer holds between calls. Dimensions are 48.46 x 31.16 x 10.67mm — confirm against your existing pack before ordering.

  • Shared platform across 1231–2420 models: These Lucent handsets run the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH architecture with a matching connector and form factor, which is why one battery covers the full model range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on compatible Lucent handsets and confirmed the BMS in the base station accepts the pack without flagging a charge error or refusing to initiate the charge sequence.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells ship at partial charge — skipping this slow initial charge will reduce usable capacity and the battery will not reach its rated 700mAh.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

New NiMH cells do not deliver rated capacity on the first cycle. The cell chemistry needs three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the plates are fully activated and capacity stabilises near 700mAh. During this conditioning period, talk time will be noticeably shorter than expected — this is normal behaviour, not a fault with the battery. Run the handset until it drops to low-battery alert, then return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat for at least three cycles.

Base station showing no charge or error light after swap

Lucent bases use a voltage threshold to detect whether a valid NiMH pack is seated — if the battery voltage is too low from extended storage, the base may not recognise it and will show no charge activity or an error indicator. This is a BMS acceptance issue, not a faulty battery. Place the handset in the base and wait 30 minutes; some bases will begin a trickle pre-charge once they detect minimal cell voltage. If the base still shows no activity after 30 minutes, reseat the handset firmly and check that the charging contacts on both handset and base are clean and making full contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Lucent handset has much shorter talk time after putting in the new battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. NiMH cells need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the plates activate and capacity reaches the rated 700mAh. Run the handset to the low-battery alert, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat. Talk time will increase noticeably with each cycle.

The base station shows no charging light at all after I fitted the replacement battery — what's happening?

Lucent bases check for a minimum voltage threshold before starting a charge cycle. Batteries that have sat in storage can drop low enough that the base won't recognise them. Seat the handset firmly and wait 30 minutes — the base should begin a trickle pre-charge once it detects cell voltage. If it still shows nothing, clean the charging contacts on both the base and handset with a dry cloth and reseat.

My Lucent handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT cordless phones drop their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset. The handset and base need to be re-paired manually. Check your Lucent model's user guide for the pairing sequence — on most 2400-series models, this involves holding the handset's page or find button on the base while the handset is powered on within range.
