Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

LumaPro 6CGL9 Series — 4.8V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (48H466)
This is a 4.8V, 800mAh nickel-cadmium replacement cell for LumaPro emergency lighting units. It fits the 6CGL9, 6CGN0, 6CGN5, and 6CGN6 models, along with four additional units in the same family. The cell slots into the fitting's charge circuit and provides backup illumination when mains power fails.
- 6CGL9 family compatibility: These models share the same 4.8V charge rail, cell footprint (49.50 × 28.30 × 28.30mm), and connector orientation. The charge controller in each unit expects the same float voltage, so one cell specification covers the entire group without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a load test simulating mains-failure activation. The BMS accepted charge within spec and the cell sustained voltage through the test duration without dropping below the fitting's low-voltage cutoff threshold.
- First-cycle test requirement: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the fitting's test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller register the new cell and confirms the cell accepts load before your next scheduled compliance inspection. Skipping this step can cause a false fail on the first formal test.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
Ni-CD cells lose voltage during storage. If the cell voltage sits below the fitting's float acceptance window when installed, the charge controller reads it as a fault rather than a depleted cell. Most LumaPro units in this series need the cell to reach approximately 4.6–4.8V before the indicator switches to green. Leave the fitting connected to mains for 24 hours after installation. If the indicator remains red after that period, check that the connector is fully seated and that no pins are bent at the terminal block.
Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement
A new Ni-CD cell does not reach full rated capacity on its first charge cycle. Running a compliance duration test the same day as installation almost always produces a short result — not because the cell is faulty, but because it hasn't completed a full conditioning cycle. Allow at least one full 24-hour charge before the formal test. If the light still falls short of the rated duration after conditioning, check the fitting's trickle charge current against the cell's 800mAh rating — a charge current below 80mA will under-condition the cell.

Frequently Asked Questions
The emergency light dims noticeably after a couple of minutes during the test — is the new battery faulty?
The cell is not faulty. A fresh Ni-CD cell needs one full charge cycle before it delivers rated capacity, and a test run within the first few hours will show early voltage sag under load. Charge the fitting on mains for a full 24 hours, then repeat the test. If dimming still occurs after conditioning, measure the open-circuit cell voltage — it should read 4.8V or above before the test begins.
The fitting's fault LED is still on after I confirmed the new battery is correctly installed — what resets it?
Some LumaPro fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not self-clear when the fault condition is resolved. Disconnect mains power to the fitting, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect. This forces the charge controller to re-poll the cell and clear the latched fault flag. If the LED returns after the reset, verify the cell voltage at the terminal block — a reading below 4.0V indicates the cell has not yet entered the charge controller's acceptance window.
The old battery casing was swollen and stuck in the fitting — what caused that, and will it happen again?
Swelling in Ni-CD cells is caused by continuous trickle charge at elevated temperature over a long service period, which drives gas accumulation inside the cell casing. It happens when a fitting stays energised for years without a battery replacement cycle. To reduce the risk with the new cell, ensure the fitting is mounted away from heat sources and that the charge current does not exceed the cell's 0.1C rate of 80mA — check the fitting's charge circuit label for the output current value.
