Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MBO Alpha Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for MBO cordless handsets. It fits the Alpha, Alpha 1000, Alpha 1010, and CT1000 series phones. Swap it in when the original pack no longer holds a charge through a normal day of use.

  • Alpha and CT1000 compatibility: These models share a common 3.6V Ni-MH pack format and use the same physical connector and cell arrangement. The battery bay dimensions — 42.40 x 49.90 x 14.40mm — seat correctly in each handset without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge runs on a 3.6V Ni-MH test rig. The cell voltage held steady through the mid-discharge range, and the pack accepted a full charge without thermal anomaly or cutoff trip.
  • First-charge conditioning on NiMH handsets: After installing, place the handset in the base cradle and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cordless phone cells need this slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping it leaves usable capacity short of the 1200mAh spec for the first several cycles.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

NiMH cells ship partially discharged and do not reach full capacity on the first cycle. Most Alpha handsets will show noticeably shorter talk time for the first three to five charge cycles — this is normal cell behaviour, not a fault. Each full charge-and-use cycle deepens the electrochemical activation of the cells. By cycle five, capacity should be at or near the rated 1200mAh.

Base station shows no-charge or error light after fitting a new pack

A NiMH pack stored at low state of charge can present a terminal voltage below the threshold the base station uses to confirm a valid battery is seated. The charger circuit sees the voltage — typically under 3.0V — as an absent or faulty pack and throws an error light instead of starting a charge cycle. Place the handset in the base and leave it undisturbed for 30 minutes. The trickle stage will bring cell voltage up enough for the base to recognise the pack and switch to normal charge mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MBO Alpha handset is losing range after I put in the new battery — calls cut out or go crackly further from the base. What's causing this?

Range drop under RF load usually points to voltage sag in the NiMH cells during transmission bursts. A new pack that hasn't been fully conditioned will sag harder under the transmit current draw, pulling handset power momentarily below what the DECT radio needs to hold signal. Run three to five full charge cycles — seat the handset in the base until the charge light clears each time — and the pack's internal resistance will drop as the cells activate. If range is still short after five cycles, check that the handset sits flush in the base cradle so the charge contacts are making clean connection.

My MBO Alpha handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery. How do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones clear their pairing registration when power is completely lost. The base station stores the paired device list, but the handset needs to re-register. On most MBO Alpha models, hold the handset's page or find button while it is seated in the base, or use the registration option in the handset menu, until the base confirms a new pairing with a tone or indicator light. Consult the handset label for the default PIN — it is usually 0000.

The battery drains completely overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base. What's wrong?

This points to a poor contact between the handset charge pins and the base cradle rather than a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully seated, the base delivers no charge current while standby draw slowly empties the pack. Remove the handset, clean the charge contacts on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth, then reseat the handset and confirm the charge indicator light comes on. If the light doesn't appear within 60 seconds of seating, adjust the handset position until it does.
