Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MEDIABOOK 8170 — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (7004)
This is an 11.1V, 6600mAh (73.26Wh) lithium-ion battery for the MEDIABOOK 8170 notebook laptop. It replaces OEM part numbers 7004, 7005, 7006, 7170, 8170, 8175, 442671200001, 442671200002, and 442671200005. The battery slots into the 8170 chassis and restores unplugged operation when the original cell has degraded or failed.
- 8170 platform compatibility: The 8170 series shares a common battery bay and connector pinout across its variants. All OEM part numbers listed above use the same 11.1V three-cell configuration and BMS handshake protocol, so one replacement cell covers the full model range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the 8170 platform. The BMS authenticated correctly with the laptop's charge controller, reached full 11.1V without throttling, and the protection circuit tripped at the expected low-voltage cutoff without requiring a manual reset.
- First-cycle calibration on the 8170: After installation, run one full discharge down to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the 8170's fuel gauge IC to re-learn the new cell's capacity curve and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears in the BIOS after any cell swap.
BIOS reporting poor battery health after fitting the replacement cell
The MEDIABOOK 8170 BIOS reads health data from the battery's EEPROM, which stores cycle count and rated capacity from the previous cell. A new cell carries fresh EEPROM data that doesn't match what the BIOS logged for the old battery, so the health indicator flags as poor or unknown immediately after the swap. This is a data mismatch, not a fault with the replacement cell. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate then a complete uninterrupted charge resets the learn cycle and updates the BIOS health register to reflect the new cell correctly.
Laptop shuts down abruptly while the gauge still shows 20–30% remaining
This happens when the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under combined CPU and display load before the fuel gauge IC predicts it will. The fuel gauge was calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve and doesn't yet know the new cell's voltage cliff point. The 8170's protection circuit cuts power the moment cell voltage falls to approximately 9V regardless of what the gauge displays. Two to three full calibration cycles — full discharge to hibernate, full charge to 100% — bring the fuel gauge IC into alignment with the new cell and eliminate the premature shutdown.

Frequently Asked Questions
The MEDIABOOK 8170 BIOS shows the new battery as "Unknown" or 0% right after installation — is the cell faulty?
The BIOS is reading EEPROM data from the old cell's history and can't yet reconcile it with the new cell's registers — the cell itself is fine. Discharge the laptop fully until it hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. That single learn cycle rewrites the health register and clears the Unknown status. If the warning persists after two full cycles, check that the battery connector is fully seated in the bay.
The battery gauge on the MEDIABOOK 8170 jumps around wildly — showing 60%, then 80%, then dropping to 40% within minutes — what causes that?
The fuel gauge IC inside the 8170 was calibrated to the discharge curve of the old cell. A new cell with different internal resistance throws off the IC's state-of-charge calculation until it has enough data to build a new curve. Run three full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles without interrupting them mid-way. After the third cycle, the gauge IC stabilises and percentage readings become consistent.
The replacement cell's Wh rating in the MEDIABOOK 8170 system information shows a different number than expected — does that mean the capacity is wrong?
The Wh figure the OS displays is pulled from the battery's EEPROM rated value, which reflects the original OEM specification stored at the factory. The actual delivered capacity of the new cell is 73.26Wh as rated. After the first full calibration cycle — full discharge to hibernate, then charge to 100% — the system recalculates and updates the Wh figure to match the new cell's real chemistry. If the number still looks off after two cycles, cross-check it against the 73.26Wh rated value on the cell label itself.
