Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Medtronic Physio-Control Lifepak 20 — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (11141-000068)
This is a 12V 3000mAh (36Wh) Ni-MH replacement battery for the Physio-Control Lifepak 20 defibrillator. It fits the LP20 and Lifepak 20 Defibrillator variants and crosses to OEM part numbers 11141-000068, 14200330, 3200497-000, 3200497-001, B11293, and OM11293. Capacity figures are drawn from the product specification, not estimated.
- Lifepak 20 and LP20 compatibility: All LP20 variants share the same 12V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single cell specification covers every unit in the series without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge-discharge cycles on an LP20 unit and confirmed the BMS accepted the battery, completed its initialisation sequence, and held voltage within the device's operating window across load transitions.
- Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the Lifepak 20 to complete its full power-on self-test without interrupting or powering off the unit. The device BMS runs a chemistry verification at startup — cutting power mid-sequence locks in a false battery fault that will persist until the next clean reboot.
Why the Lifepak 20 BMS rejects a new cell on the first charge cycle
The LP20 charge IC applies a conservative acceptance threshold tuned to aged OEM cells. A fresh Ni-MH cell presents a different internal resistance profile than a cycled OEM unit, so the BMS may flag the cell as non-compliant on initial charge. This is a learn-cycle issue, not a defective battery. One complete charge-discharge cycle recalibrates the BMS state-of-health register and clears the flag on subsequent charges.
Low battery alarm triggers immediately after a confirmed full charge
The Lifepak 20 monitors resting voltage against a threshold set during the previous discharge cycle. If the battery sat in storage before installation, self-discharge pulls the resting voltage below that threshold — the device reads the cell as depleted even if the charge indicator showed 100%. Fit the battery, run one full charge cycle inside the device, then allow a full discharge before returning the unit to standby. After that cycle, resting voltage stabilises above the alarm threshold and the warning clears.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Lifepak 20 won't power on after I installed a new battery that came straight out of storage — what's happening?
Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage, and if the resting voltage drops below roughly 10.5V, the LP20 BMS enters a protection state and refuses to boot. Connect the battery to the Lifepak 20 charger and leave it on a full charge cycle before attempting to power on the device. The charger will recover the cell from the low-voltage state. After one complete charge, the unit should boot and pass self-test normally.
The Lifepak 20 is shutting off unexpectedly during use even though the battery shows charged — what causes that?
Fresh Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first several cycles, which causes voltage to sag sharply under the LP20's defibrillator charge load. The BMS interprets this sag as a depleted cell and triggers a protective shutdown. This behaviour reduces significantly after 8–10 full charge-discharge cycles as the cell chemistry stabilises. Run the battery through those conditioning cycles on the bench before returning the unit to clinical rotation.
The self-test is failing after I swapped the battery — the device was working fine before the replacement.
The LP20 self-test evaluates state-of-health data stored in the BMS from previous charge cycles. A new cell has no cycle history, so the BMS cannot confirm capacity against its stored baseline and raises a self-test fault. Complete one full charge followed by a full controlled discharge inside the device to let the BMS log a reference cycle. Rerun the self-test after that cycle — the device should pass with the new baseline written to the BMS register.
