Fits Vodafone 845, 858, 858 Smart, V858 and replaces OEM part number HB4J1.
Voltage 3.7V, capacity 1100mAh — supplies core phone functions across calls, messaging, and apps without degradation.
Connector mates flush to the 845 battery slot with standard locking tab; orientation keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We bench-tested this cell on a discharge rig — the BMS settled stable after three cycles, no early cutoff observed.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle so the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell's discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vodafone 845 / 858 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HB4J1)

This is a 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion cell for the Vodafone 845, 858, 858 Smart, and V858. It replaces the original HB4J1 / HB4J1H battery when the existing cell no longer holds a usable charge. The cell measures 54 × 43 × 5mm and slots directly into the rear-access battery bay.

  • 845 and 858 platform compatibility: These models share the same battery footprint, connector pitch, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers the full range without any modification to the contacts or housing.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on an 858 Smart unit. The BMS accepted the new cell without a reset loop, charge current stepped correctly through CC/CV phases, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold during discharge testing.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration after swap: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% before normal use. This gives the fuel gauge IC a complete discharge curve to map against the new cell — skipping this step is the main cause of erratic percentage readings post-swap.

Why the 845 and 858 report wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The fuel gauge IC in these phones uses a coulomb counter that was calibrated to the discharge curve of the original cell. A new cell — even at the same rated capacity — presents a slightly different voltage-versus-charge profile. Until the IC runs one full cycle on the new cell, it interpolates percentage from stale reference data. The result is jumpy or frozen percentage readings that settle after the first complete discharge and recharge cycle.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the modem radio or display backlight draws a current spike the cell cannot sustain at low state-of-charge without voltage dropping below the BMS cutoff threshold. It is not a faulty cell — it is the fuel gauge reporting a higher percentage than the actual remaining capacity supports under load. Run the recalibration cycle described above. After a full discharge-recharge loop, the IC anchors its low-end estimate correctly and shutdowns below 3.4V under load should stop occurring.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Vodafone 858 won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer for months — is the new battery dead on arrival?

Most likely the BMS has entered lockout because the cell discharged below 2.5V during storage. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for at least 20 minutes before attempting to power on. The charge IC needs enough current to push the cell above the BMS recovery threshold before the phone will respond to the power button. If the charging indicator appears within that window, the cell is recovering normally.

The percentage on my 845 jumps from 45% straight to 15% with no warning — what's happening?

The coulomb counter in the 845 was calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, and the new cell has a slightly different voltage profile at mid-charge. The IC is misreading state-of-charge in the middle range until it has a full reference cycle. Run the phone down completely to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% in one session. After that single full cycle, the fuel gauge re-anchors its curve to the new cell and the percentage jumps stop.

Fast charging stopped working after I fitted the replacement HB4J1 — the phone only trickle charges now.

On the first charge cycle after a cell swap, some charge ICs default to a conservative current limit while the BMS handshake completes against the new cell's internal resistance reading. Disconnect the charger, power the phone off fully, then reconnect. If fast charge still doesn't engage, check that the charger output is at least 5V/1A — a low-output USB port will hold the IC in trickle mode regardless of BMS state. Normal charge current should resume by the second full cycle.
