Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Microsoft Lumia 928 / RM-860 — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BV-4NW)

This is a 3.8V 2000mAh Li-Polymer cell replacing the OEM BV-4NW battery in the Microsoft Lumia 928 (RM-860, RM-5250). It fits the internal slot without modification and connects to the existing charge IC and fuel gauge circuit. Capacity matches the factory specification at 7.6Wh.

  • Lumia 928 / RM-860 / RM-5250 platform fit: All three model numbers share the same chassis, connector pinout, and BMS handshake. The BV-4NW cell interfaces directly with the Lumia 928's fuel gauge IC, so no adapter or firmware workaround is needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Lumia 928's charge IC and confirmed the BMS accepted charging without error, held voltage above 3.6V under display and modem load, and released cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: After installing this cell, run one full discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before normal use. The Lumia 928's coulomb counter resets its learned curve against the new cell during that first complete cycle — skipping this step causes erratic percentage readings for days.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Lumia 928 after a cell swap

The Lumia 928 pulls hard when the modem is active on LTE or when the screen brightness peaks. A new cell with an uncalibrated fuel gauge IC can report 25% remaining while the actual open-circuit voltage has already dropped below the modem's minimum operating threshold. The phone cuts power to protect the SoC before the OS registers low battery. One full discharge-to-shutdown cycle lets the coulomb counter map the new cell's actual voltage curve, after which the percentage tracks accurately and the early shutdowns stop.

Phone won't power on after sitting in storage with a flat BV-4NW

Li-Polymer cells that discharge below approximately 2.5V trigger a BMS lockout to prevent thermal runaway during recovery charging. If the Lumia 928 sat unused for months with the old or new cell fully drained, the BMS will block normal charge input and the phone appears completely dead. Connect it to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC delivers a low-current trickle to recover the cell voltage above the 2.8V threshold, after which normal charging and boot resume automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Lumia 928 shows the wrong battery percentage after fitting the new BV-4NW — it jumped from 15% to 60% overnight. What's going on?

The fuel gauge IC in the Lumia 928 stores a learned discharge curve from the old cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual voltage profile, so the reported percentage drifts and jumps. Run one complete cycle — discharge until the phone shuts itself off, then charge to 100% without interruption. After that single cycle, the coulomb counter recalibrates against the new cell and the percentage readings stabilise.

The Lumia 928 feels warm near the battery compartment for the first hour of charging the new cell — is that normal?

A new Li-Polymer cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in one. During the first few charge cycles, the charge IC pushes current into a cell with more resistance, which generates a small amount of extra heat. This is normal and reduces after two or three full cycles as the cell's impedance settles. If the phone becomes hot to the touch or the back flexes, stop charging and check that the cell is seated flat with no pressure on the pouch — a pinched BV-4NW cell can swell under even normal charge current.

Fast charging stopped working after I replaced the BV-4NW — the Lumia 928 now only trickle charges on the same charger I always used.

The Lumia 928's charge IC negotiates current delivery based on BMS state. On the very first charge cycle after a cell swap, the BMS may present a conservative profile that locks the IC into low-current mode until it confirms cell health. Disconnect the charger, power the phone fully off, then reconnect to the wall charger. If fast charging still does not resume after a full off-cycle charge, let the battery discharge to below 20% and recharge — the BMS handshake resets once it completes one full charge-state traversal.
