Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mitoya RL-480 3000-6000 K — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This 7.4V 4400mAh (32.56Wh) Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Mitoya RL-480 3000-6000 K LED ring light. The RL-480 runs variable colour temperatures from 3000K to 6000K for photo and video work, and this battery powers that full range without modification. Dimensions are 70.60 × 38.70 × 39.90mm — confirm your original matches before ordering.
- RL-480 platform fit: The RL-480 3000-6000 K draws consistent current across its colour temperature range, and the BMS in this cell is calibrated to the same 7.4V nominal rail and discharge profile as the OEM unit. The connector and housing geometry match the original bay without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the RL-480 platform and monitored BMS behaviour at both the 3000K warm end and 6000K cool end of the output range. The protection circuit held cutoff voltage correctly and did not trip under normal lighting load transitions.
- First-use charge cycle on the RL-480: Run one complete charge cycle through the device before a shoot. The RL-480 reads state of charge from the cell's voltage curve — a partial or interrupted first charge can cause the indicator to misread remaining capacity throughout that session.
Why the RL-480 brightness drops before the battery indicator hits zero
The RL-480 dims output before full cutoff because the driver circuit starts to lose regulation as cell voltage falls below roughly 7.0V under load. At that point, the battery still has charge remaining but can no longer sustain the current the LED array demands at full output. This is a driver behaviour, not a cell fault. If dimming starts earlier than expected, check that the cell is fully charged to 8.4V before the session — a cell that has sat unused for weeks may show a partial state of charge that accelerates this threshold.
Battery percentage jumping erratically on the RL-480 display
This happens when the device's indicator maps its percentage steps against the OEM cell's discharge curve, and the new cell's curve doesn't match exactly at mid-range voltages. The result is jumps — often from 60% to 30% with no warning. It's a firmware mapping issue, not a fault with the cell. Run two full charge-discharge cycles on the RL-480 and the indicator will stabilise as the device recalibrates its reference points against the new cell's actual curve.

Frequently Asked Questions
The RL-480 is showing a low-battery warning but I just charged this replacement cell — what's going on?
The RL-480 reads state of charge from cell voltage, and a new Li-ion cell can sit at a partially self-discharged voltage after shipping — even if it reads "charged" from a standalone charger. Plug the cell into the RL-480 and run a full charge cycle through the device itself, not an external charger. Once the device charges the cell from within, it anchors its voltage reference correctly. After that cycle, the low-battery warning should clear at normal thresholds.
My RL-480 gets through far fewer shots and sessions than I expected on a full charge — is the cell faulty?
The 4400mAh rating is measured at a standard discharge rate, but the RL-480 at full brightness on the 6000K setting pulls harder than the test rate, which compresses usable capacity under real shooting conditions. Heat also reduces available capacity — if you're shooting in a warm environment or the light has been running for an extended period, expect more draw. Check that you're charging to a full 8.4V before each session. If the cell isn't reaching 8.4V at end of charge, the charger or connection is the issue, not the cell.
The RL-480 light output flickers intermittently mid-session on the new battery — what causes that?
Flickering mid-session is usually a contact issue, not a cell fault. The RL-480 battery bay relies on firm physical contact between the cell terminals and the device pins — if the replacement cell sits even slightly loose, voltage delivery interrupts under load and the driver drops output momentarily. Remove the cell, inspect the bay contacts for debris or slight bending, and reseat the cell firmly. If flickering continues after reseating, measure the cell voltage under load with a multimeter — it should hold above 7.0V during normal operation.
