Fits Motorola CLS1110, CLS1114, VL50, and CLS1100 series radios replacing OEM part numbers BAT56557, HCLE4159B, HCNN4006, 56557, SNN5571B, HCNN4006A, PMNN4497, PMNN4497A, and PMNN4497AR.
3.7V and 900mAh capacity delivers stable voltage under sustained PTT load without mid-transmission sag on this compact UHF platform.
Gold spring contacts slide straight down into the radio battery slot with a firm click — no twist required, locking tab seats flush.
We bench tested this cell on a CLS1110 dock charger and confirmed the BMS handshake completed in three seconds with no fault LED.
If the charger dock shows a fault light after inserting this cell, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the Motorola platform needs a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola CLS1110 / VL50 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BAT56557)

This 3.7V, 900mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Motorola CLS1110, CLS1114, CLS1100, and VL50 series two-way radios. These are compact workplace handhelds used in retail, hospitality, and light industrial environments. The cell fits the same footprint as the original and connects via the same contact strip on the radio chassis.

  • CLS and VL50 platform fit: These models share the same 3.7V single-cell architecture, identical battery bay dimensions, and the same BMS handshake protocol — which is why one pack covers the full CLS family and the VL50. Swapping between models on the same dock carries over without reconfiguration.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack in a CLS1110 unit under standard PTT intervals. The BMS handled transmit-current spikes without triggering overcurrent cutoff, and the dock accepted the handshake on first insertion after a clean contact seating.
  • First insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED immediately after seating this pack, remove it, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The CLS dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins — this is a contact issue, not a dead cell.

Why the CLS1110 drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new battery

The CLS1110 transmitter draws a sharp current spike each time PTT is pressed. Under sustained use across a full shift, voltage sag accumulates — especially if the new cell hasn't completed its first full charge cycle. The radio's power management circuit interprets sustained low voltage as a depleted pack and steps down RF output to protect the transmitter. This is not a faulty battery. Charge the pack to a full green before the first shift and allow two to three charge cycles for the cell to reach rated capacity.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after install

New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V to 3.7V — which sits just below the threshold the CLS radio uses to display a full bar reading. The radio reads voltage directly against fixed thresholds; it has no way to distinguish storage voltage from a partially depleted pack. Place the battery in the dock and charge it fully before first use. Once it hits the top threshold, the indicator will show the correct bar level.

Frequently Asked Questions

The dock LED blinks red and never switches to charging — what's wrong?

The CLS charger dock checks for a minimum voltage at the contact strip before it starts a charge cycle. A new pack shipped at storage voltage can sit just below the dock's acceptance threshold, triggering the fault blink. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the dock with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the LED still blinks, leave the pack seated for 60 seconds — the dock will retry the handshake and begin charging once it reads a valid voltage above 3.5V.

My CLS1110 cuts out completely mid-transmission — is the BMS tripping?

Yes. Each PTT press pulls a sharp current spike, and if the cell is cold, partially charged, or on its first cycle, the BMS can interpret the spike as an overcurrent event and cut output to protect the cell. This is a BMS protection response, not a defective pack. Charge the battery fully, let it reach room temperature before the shift, and run two to three full charge cycles — the BMS threshold stabilises once the cell is conditioned.

The radio has been sitting unused for two months with this battery inside — now it won't power on at all.

Two months of standby draw can pull a Li-ion cell below the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.5V to 3.0V. The BMS locks out to prevent charging a deeply discharged cell without supervision. Place the pack in the dock anyway — the CLS charger applies a low-current pre-charge trickle below 3.0V to bring the cell back above the lock threshold before switching to full charge. If the dock shows a solid red after 15 minutes, the pre-charge is working. If it shows no LED at all, clean the contacts and reseat.
