Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

MYQ Smart Garage Video Keypad — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (18650MH1-1S2P)
This 3.7V 6800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original cell in the MYQ Smart Garage Video Keypad (VKP1-MYQ). It powers the keypad's video display, wireless transmission, and door control functions. Voltage and capacity match the OEM specification exactly at 3.7V and 6800mAh (25.16Wh).
- VKP1-MYQ and Video Keypad compatibility: All three listed model designations — SMART GARAGE VIDEO KEYPAD, Video Keypad, and VKP1-MYQ — share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell fits all three.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge cycles and monitored BMS communication with the keypad controller. The protection circuit handled both video-stream draw and idle standby current without tripping or dropping voltage below the low-battery threshold.
- Post-install float charge period: Do not run a video or door-trigger test immediately after swapping this cell. Allow 24–48 hours on charge before testing. A cell installed below full charge can cause the keypad to report a low-battery fault even when the hardware is functioning correctly.
Why the VKP1-MYQ shows "Low Battery" hours after a fresh cell is installed
The MYQ keypad's onboard controller samples battery voltage at startup and again after the first wireless transmission event. If the cell has not yet reached a stable resting voltage — typically above 4.0V — the controller logs a low-battery state and pushes that alert to the app. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. The cell needs a full charge cycle before the controller clears the alert. Leave the keypad on charge for 24–48 hours and the status will update automatically once the voltage holds above the threshold.
Keypad not connecting to the MYQ app after battery swap
A battery swap interrupts power long enough for the keypad's Wi-Fi module to lose its session state. When power returns below 3.85V, the module may not complete its full handshake with the MYQ hub. The fix is straightforward: hold the keypad's reset button for 10 seconds after reinstalling the cell, then allow a two-minute boot cycle before opening the app. If the connection still fails, confirm the cell is seated fully and voltage at the terminals reads at least 3.7V before retrying pairing.

Frequently Asked Questions
My MYQ keypad still shows low battery in the app 12 hours after I put in the new cell — is the replacement faulty?
Almost certainly not. The VKP1-MYQ controller checks battery voltage against a stored threshold, and a cell that hasn't completed a full charge cycle will read below that threshold even if the hardware is working correctly. Leave the keypad connected to its charging source for 24–48 hours. Once the cell holds a resting voltage above 4.0V, the panel clears the alert and syncs the updated status to the app.
The MYQ keypad lost its Wi-Fi credentials and door pairing after I replaced the battery — why?
Removing the cell cuts all power to the keypad, including the memory that holds Wi-Fi and hub pairing data. This is expected behaviour — the VKP1-MYQ does not have a separate CMOS backup for those settings. After reinstalling the cell and allowing a full two-minute boot cycle, re-enter your Wi-Fi credentials through the MYQ app and re-pair the keypad to your garage door opener using the standard pairing sequence in Settings → Devices.
The video feed on my MYQ keypad freezes or drops out right after the battery was replaced — what's causing that?
Video streaming is the highest-draw function on the VKP1-MYQ and is the first feature the BMS will throttle if cell voltage sags below approximately 3.6V. A partially charged replacement cell can't sustain the current spike that the video module demands on startup. Charge the keypad fully before using the live video feature. If the freeze persists after a full charge, check that the cell connectors are fully seated — an intermittent connection causes voltage drop under load that the BMS reads as a fault and responds to by cutting the video feed.
