Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Navigon 40 Easy / 40 Plus — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (8390-ZC01-0780)

This 3.7V 1200mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Navigon 40 Easy and 40 Plus portable GPS navigators. It powers the display, processor, and GPS receiver module. Capacity matches the OEM spec at 1200mAh (4.44Wh).

  • 40 Easy and 40 Plus compatibility: Both units share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V supply rail. The BMS handshake is identical across the range, so one cell covers both models without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Navigon 40 unit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without fault codes. Charge termination triggered cleanly at full voltage with no overcharge event.
  • Cold-start after power interruption: After fitting this cell, power the GPS on outdoors before your first drive. The unit performs a cold satellite acquisition after any full power removal — allow 5 to 10 minutes to establish the first fix before relying on routing.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Navigon 40

The Navigon 40 series reduces power to the GPS receiver module when battery voltage drops below a certain threshold. This cuts the receiver's sensitivity, which means fewer satellites are tracked and position accuracy degrades. You may notice the blue location dot drifting or snapping to incorrect roads. Keep the unit charged above 3.6V during active navigation to avoid receiver throttling.

Device shuts off without warning before the low-battery indicator appears

This happens when the battery's actual capacity has drifted and the fuel gauge is no longer calibrated to the cell. The unit's voltage-threshold cutoff triggers before the on-screen indicator reaches the last bar. After fitting a new cell, run one full discharge cycle from 100% to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 4.2V. That recalibrates the indicator to the new cell's curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Navigon 40 lost all my saved routes and favourites after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Navigon 40 holds some navigation data in battery-backed RAM, and a full power removal wipes it. Saved routes and custom POIs stored in volatile memory are lost when the cell goes flat or is physically removed. Favourites saved to the internal flash should survive, but any unsaved route history will not. Before swapping, export your favourites via the device's PC software if you want to recover them quickly.

Satellite lock is taking 5 to 10 minutes after fitting the new battery — was the cell faulty?

No, the cell is not at fault. Any full power interruption forces the Navigon 40 into a cold start, which means the GPS receiver has to download fresh ephemeris data from scratch rather than using cached satellite positions. We confirmed this on the bench — the first fix after a cold start takes 5 to 10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Subsequent warm starts drop back to under a minute once the device has stored a recent position fix.

Active navigation drains the Navigon 40 battery much faster than when the device is just sitting idle — what's causing that?

The GPS receiver and the display together are the two largest draws on this cell. During active turn-by-turn navigation, both run continuously at full load. At maximum screen brightness the combined draw is significantly higher than standby. Lower the display brightness one or two steps in the device settings and the discharge rate drops noticeably — this is the single most effective adjustment for this device class.
