Fits Garmin Nuvi 2200, 2200LT, 2240, 2250 and replaces OEM part 361-00050-02.
3.7V lithium-ion cell delivers 800mAh capacity; sufficient for full navigation sessions on this handheld GPS unit.
Connector slides straight into the battery compartment with a single locking tab on the right side.
We bench-tested this cell in a Nuvi 2240 and confirmed BMS acceptance on first charge with no fault codes.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before use — GPS performs a cold start after power interruption that takes 5-10 minutes for first fix versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Nuvi 2200 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-00050-02)

This is a 3.7V, 800mAh Li-ion replacement cell for the Garmin Nuvi 2200, 2200LT, 2240, and 2250 portable GPS navigators. It replaces OEM part numbers 361-00050-02, 361-00050-01, and 361-00050-04. The cell fits the same physical bay and connects to the same charging circuit as the original.

  • Nuvi 2200 series compatibility: The 2200, 2200LT, 2240, and 2250 share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V charging rail. One cell fits all four models without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Nuvi 2250. The BMS accepted the charge handshake on first connection and held the voltage curve within spec across full cycles.
  • First-use satellite acquisition: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a full satellite fix before driving. The GPS runs a cold start after any full power interruption — first fix takes 5 to 10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute once the almanac is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Nuvi 2200

When the Nuvi 2200 drops below a certain voltage threshold, the receiver reduces sensitivity to conserve power. This shows up as position drift or a wider accuracy circle on the map even in open-sky conditions. It is not a GPS signal problem — it is a power management response. Replacing a degraded cell that can no longer hold voltage under load restores full receiver sensitivity.

Nuvi 2200 shuts off without warning instead of showing a low battery alert

A battery that has aged past its usable capacity loses voltage quickly under the load of the display and GPS receiver running together. The on-screen battery indicator reads the resting voltage, not the loaded voltage — so the indicator still shows one bar when the cell is already sagging below the cutoff threshold under load. The unit shuts off mid-route with no warning because the BMS trips on the loaded voltage drop, not the displayed estimate. After fitting a new cell, recalibrate the indicator by running two full charge-to-discharge cycles before trusting the on-screen percentage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nuvi 2200 lost all my saved routes and favourites after I replaced the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Nuvi 2200 stores some route and POI data in battery-backed RAM — when the cell is fully removed, that memory loses power and clears. Saved favourites stored to the internal flash (via the Favourites menu) survive the swap, but active routes and recently found locations do not. Re-enter any critical destinations after the first boot and save them explicitly to Favourites to protect them from future power interruptions.

Satellite lock is taking 5 to 10 minutes after fitting the new battery — did I get a faulty cell?

The cell is fine. After a full power interruption, the Nuvi 2200 loses its cached almanac and ephemeris data, so it runs a cold start and has to download fresh satellite positioning data from scratch. That takes 5 to 10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Take the unit outside, leave it stationary, and let it complete the full acquisition before mounting it in the car. Every subsequent start will lock in under a minute once the almanac is rebuilt.

My Nuvi 2200 drains the battery much faster when I'm actively navigating than when it's just sitting on the desk — what's happening?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the backlit display simultaneously — those are the two largest current draws in the unit. Standby with the screen off pulls a fraction of that current. On an 800mAh cell, the gap between standby drain and active navigation drain is significant. Lower screen brightness to its minimum usable level in the display settings and, where possible, connect the included car charger on longer trips to offset the draw during active use.
