Fits Nokia N72 and DS89 candybar phones; replaces original 3.7V lithium-ion cell.
3.7V at 1200mAh provides 4.44Wh capacity — matches OEM output for standard talk and standby time.
Connector slides into the battery slot with positive terminal facing the contact spring; no locking tab.
We tested this cell on a N72 unit and confirmed the fuel gauge accepted the new BMS after first full discharge-charge cycle.
On first insertion, run one complete discharge to zero percent followed by a full charge before resuming normal use — this recalibrates the phone's coulomb counter to the new cell's discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Noktel N72 / DS89 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This Noktel battery is a 3.7V, 1200mAh (4.44Wh) lithium-ion cell for the Nokia N72 and DS89 handsets. It slots into the original battery compartment and connects to the same three-contact dock used by the factory cell. Voltage and form factor match the OEM spec: 53.00 × 34.00 × 5.70mm.

  • N72 and DS89 compatibility: Both handsets share the same battery bay dimensions, voltage rail, and contact layout, so a single cell covers both platforms without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on the N72 through charge and load, confirmed the BMS accepted full CC/CV charge to 4.2V, and verified cutoff triggered correctly at the low-voltage threshold without tripping early.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first installation, run one full discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before normal use. The N72's fuel gauge IC is calibrated against the old cell curve and needs this single full cycle to remap its coulomb counter to the new cell's actual capacity.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the N72 after a cell swap

This is a voltage-cliff problem, not a capacity problem. The N72's fuel gauge IC still holds the discharge curve from the degraded original cell. When the new cell's voltage drops under modem or screen load in the 3.6–3.7V range, the phone reads that as critical low and shuts down before the actual charge is exhausted. One full discharge-to-cutoff cycle followed by a complete charge forces the coulomb counter to relearn the new cell's curve and pushes the reported shutdown point back toward 0%.

Phone warm near the battery bay during the first charge after installation

A new high-impedance cell generates more heat during initial charging than a broken-in cell. The charge IC on the N72 runs constant-current at a fixed rate regardless of cell impedance, which produces slightly elevated temperatures until the cell completes two or three full cycles and internal resistance drops. If the phone feels hot to the touch rather than warm, remove it from charge and let it cool before continuing. After the first three cycles, charge temperature should return to the level you saw with the original battery.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nokia N72 shuts off at around 25% after fitting this new battery — is the battery faulty?

The battery is not faulty. The N72's fuel gauge IC still uses the discharge curve it mapped to the old, degraded cell. When the new cell's voltage dips under screen or modem load in the 3.6–3.7V range, the phone reads it as critically low and cuts power even though capacity remains. Run one full discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%, and the coulomb counter will remap to the new cell's actual curve.

The battery percentage on my N72 jumps around erratically right after I installed this cell — what's happening?

The fuel gauge IC on the N72 is recalibrating. It lost its reference point when the old cell was removed and is now estimating state-of-charge against an uncalibrated baseline. Percentage readings will be unstable until the IC completes at least one full discharge-charge cycle to anchor its coulomb counter. Complete that single cycle and the readings will stabilise — no hardware fault is present.

My N72 won't power on at all after this replacement battery sat in a drawer for several months — what do I do?

Extended storage can push a lithium-ion cell below 2.5V per cell, triggering a BMS lockout that blocks normal power-on. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without attempting to turn it on — the charge IC will trickle current into the cell until it climbs above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.9–3.0V. Once the charging indicator appears on screen, the BMS has released lockout and normal charging can resume.
