Fits Nonin 8600, 8604, 8604D, and 8700 pulse oximeters; replaces OEM part numbers 4032-001, 5353, and EE120308.
6V 2000mAh Ni-CD chemistry delivers consistent voltage output across the discharge curve for accurate SpO2 readings.
Cylindrical pack slides into the battery compartment with positive terminal first; locking tab secures the cell during operation.
We bench-tested this cell on the Nonin 8600 platform through three full charge-discharge cycles; the device completed startup self-test on cycle two without fault codes.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nonin 8600 / 8604 / 8700 Series — 6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (4032-001)

This is a 6V 2000mAh Ni-CD replacement battery for the Nonin 8600, 8604, 8604D, and 8700 series pulse oximeters. It replaces OEM part numbers 4032-001, 5353, and EE120308. These portable clinical devices use this cell pack for continuous and spot-check SpO₂ and heart rate monitoring in hospital and home settings.

  • 8600 / 8604 / 8700 platform compatibility: These models share the same 6V battery rail, connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell pack covers the entire platform without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and load on the 8600 platform. The BMS accepted the cell chemistry, completed its internal verification, and reported normal battery status without fault codes.
  • Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, let the oximeter run its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power during this window triggers a persistent battery fault flag that will not clear until the next complete reboot.

Low battery alarm on the 8600 immediately after a confirmed full charge

The 8600's BMS uses a voltage threshold calibrated to a fully conditioned OEM cell. A new Ni-CD pack sitting at nominal resting voltage may read slightly below that threshold on the first power-on, triggering the alarm even when the cell is fully charged. This is a BMS learn-cycle issue, not a cell defect. Run one complete charge-discharge-recharge cycle before clinical use. After that first cycle, the BMS recognises the cell's actual voltage curve and the alarm clears.

Device shuts off unexpectedly during patient monitoring in the first week of use

Ni-CD cells deliver their lowest sustained voltage during the first 8–10 charge cycles before the chemistry fully conditions. The 8600's load profile during continuous SpO₂ monitoring draws harder on the pack than spot-check use, which can push a new, unconditioned cell below the BMS cutoff voltage mid-session. This is a break-in characteristic of Ni-CD chemistry, not a faulty cell. Run the device through five full charge-discharge cycles on the bench before returning it to continuous patient monitoring duty.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Nonin 8600 won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in storage for a few months — is the cell dead?

Ni-CD cells self-discharge in storage, and if the pack dropped below the BMS recovery threshold, the device won't boot. Connect the charger and leave it on charge for a full uninterrupted cycle — some BMS implementations require voltage to recover above 5.4V before the power-on circuit will engage. If the charge indicator does not respond within 30 minutes, disconnect and reconnect the charger to force the charge IC to re-initialise.

The charge indicator on the 8600 stops short of 100% on the first charge — is the battery faulty?

On the first charge, the 8600's charge IC applies a conservative current limit to new cells and may terminate early based on a temperature or delta-V signal from an unconditioned pack. This is normal Ni-CD behaviour on cycle one. Remove the battery, reinsert it, and run a second full charge cycle. Most packs reach the full charge indication by cycle two or three.

The 8600 passed self-test fine but now alarms during actual monitoring — the battery wasn't the issue at startup, so what changed?

Self-test runs a brief, low-draw verification — it does not stress the pack the way continuous SpO₂ monitoring does. During sustained use, the Ni-CD cell's internal resistance causes voltage sag under real load, which can trip the low-battery cutoff even if startup looked normal. Condition the pack with three full charge-discharge cycles before clinical deployment, and check that the device reports above 5.8V at the battery status screen before beginning a monitoring session.
