Fits Nortel C4010 and C4020 cordless phone handsets replacing OEM battery packs.
3.6V and 700mAh capacity restores full talk and standby time on the C4010 handset platform.
Battery slides into the handset battery slot with a single-point locking tab seated against the door catch.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH pack on the C4010 base charger — voltage acceptance was immediate and charge curve tracked normal for this chemistry.
Place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless batteries require a slow first charge cycle to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nortel C4010 / C4020 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Nortel C4010 and C4020 cordless phone handsets. It slots into the handset battery compartment and restores power to the unit so it can operate wirelessly from the base station. Dimensions are 46.60 × 31.40 × 10.60mm — confirm these against your existing cell before ordering.

  • C4010 and C4020 compatibility: Both models share the same handset platform, battery bay dimensions, and 3.6V NiMH charging circuit in the base station. One battery fits both.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the base station's trickle-charge circuit. The NiMH pack accepted charge without triggering the base's fault indicator, and voltage settled at the expected 3.6V nominal across discharge.
  • First-charge requirement for NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells ship partially discharged. Skipping the slow initial charge means the pack never reaches rated 700mAh capacity — this is a chemistry behaviour, not a defect.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

NiMH cells need three to five full charge-discharge cycles to reach rated capacity. On the first cycle, the pack may deliver noticeably less talk time than expected — that is normal. Each subsequent full discharge and slow recharge conditions the cells further. By cycle five, capacity should stabilise near the rated 700mAh. Run the handset until it drops the call, then return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge to complete each conditioning cycle properly.

Base station showing no charge or error light with new battery installed

NiMH batteries self-discharge during storage, and a deeply discharged pack can sit below the voltage threshold the base station uses to detect a valid battery. The base then withholds charge entirely or shows a fault light. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, and reseat it firmly — physical contact matters here. If the error persists, the pack voltage may be too low for the base to accept; some Nortel bases require the cell to be at or above roughly 3.0V before the charge circuit engages.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nortel C4010 handset won't pair with the base after I swapped the battery — did I break something?

Removing power from a DECT handset often clears the pairing stored in the handset's memory. The fix is to re-register the handset to the base, not to replace the battery again. On most Nortel DECT systems, hold the Find/Page button on the base for several seconds until the handset enters registration mode, then follow the pairing prompt on the handset display. The process takes under two minutes and does not affect other paired handsets.

The C4020 handset is losing range now — it dropped calls it handled fine before the battery swap. What's happening?

Range drops happen when the handset's RF transmit circuit can't draw enough current at peak load. A fresh NiMH pack that hasn't been fully conditioned sags in voltage under the RF burst, and the transmitter backs off power to compensate. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles — discharge by using the handset until it cuts out, then charge for 16 hours in the base. Transmit voltage stabilises as the cells reach full capacity, and range returns to normal.

The handset battery drains completely overnight even though I left it in the base — why isn't it staying charged?

If the handset isn't seated squarely in the charging cradle, the charging contacts don't make a clean connection and the base never delivers current to the pack. Check that the handset clicks fully into the base and that neither contact on the handset or cradle has visible corrosion or debris. Clean the contacts with a dry cloth and reseat the unit. If the drain continues after confirming good contact, use a multimeter to check cradle output — it should read at or above 3.6V DC at the charging pins.
