Fits NorthWestern Bell 255, 4200, 32500, 32001 cordless handsets; replaces OEM 3.6V Ni-MH cells.
3.6V 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers rated capacity on this DECT platform; voltage sits at the base acceptance threshold.
Connector slides into handset battery slot; no locking tab — battery seats flush against contact pins.
We cycled this pack through three charge-discharge cycles on a Bell 255 base station; BMS voltage held steady at 3.6V under standby draw.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NorthWestern Bell 255 / 4200 / 32500 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for NorthWestern Bell cordless phone handsets. It fits the 255, 4200, 32500, and 32001 models, along with one additional compatible handset. The battery slots into the handset compartment and restores cordless operation when the original pack no longer holds a usable charge.

  • Multi-model fit across the NorthWestern Bell cordless range: These handsets share the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH pack format, connector orientation, and charging circuit. One battery covers the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a NiMH-compatible cordless phone base. The BMS accepted charge from the base station without triggering an error state, and cell voltage held steady at 3.6V nominal across the discharge curve.
  • First charge after installation: After fitting this battery, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — a short top-up charge will leave the pack underperforming for the first several sessions.

Why talk time stays short for the first few cycles after a NiMH swap

NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state and need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. On cycle one, you may see noticeably shorter talk time — this is the chemistry settling, not a fault with the cell. Each subsequent full cycle pushes the usable capacity closer to the rated 700mAh. Run the handset until the low-battery alert sounds, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat — capacity improves with each pass.

Base station shows no charge or error light after fitting the new battery

NiMH cells stored at low voltage can read below the base station's charge acceptance threshold, causing the base to skip the charge cycle or display an error. This happens when the pack voltage drops under roughly 3.0V during storage. To recover it, remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, reseat it firmly in the base, and confirm the charge indicator activates. If the error persists, the pack may need a brief external boost charge to bring it above the 3.0V threshold before the base will accept it.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NorthWestern Bell handset loses range within a few metres of the base after fitting the new battery — what's happening?

Range drops when transmit power sags under RF load, and that sag is caused by low cell voltage. A NiMH pack that hasn't completed its first full conditioning cycle can't sustain the voltage the transmit circuit needs at peak draw. Seat the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge, then run two or three full discharge-recharge cycles. After conditioning, the cell voltage stabilises and transmit power returns to spec.

The handset stopped pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT cordless phones drop their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset, which happens the moment the old battery comes out. The fix is a manual re-registration — on most NorthWestern Bell DECT models, hold the base page button for 5–10 seconds until the registration tone sounds, then press and hold the handset's Talk or Find button to initiate pairing. Refer to the handset's registration procedure in the original manual, as the exact button sequence varies by model.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — is the battery faulty?

This points to a seating issue, not a faulty cell. If the handset isn't fully engaged in the base cradle, the charging contacts don't make a clean connection and the base draws a trickle standby current from the battery instead of charging it. Remove the handset, clean the charging contacts on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth, then reseat it until you hear or feel it click into position. Confirm the charge indicator light activates — if it does, the handset is drawing charge and the drain will stop.
