Fits NorthWestern Bell 35500 and 35550 cordless phone handsets as direct OEM replacement.
2.4V, 300mAh Ni-MH chemistry restores full talk and standby time to aging handsets.
Connector slides into handset battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats flush.
We ran charge cycles on a 35500 base station — BMS accepted the cell on first insertion with no fault codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NorthWestern Bell 35500 / 35550 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 2.4V, 300mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the NorthWestern Bell 35500 and 35550 cordless phone handsets. It sits inside the handset and powers both active calls and standby operation. Voltage, capacity, and cell chemistry match the original pack spec.

  • 35500 and 35550 compatibility: Both models share the same handset housing, battery bay dimensions, and 2.4V charging circuit. The base station expects a standard Ni-MH charge profile — this pack meets that spec without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Ni-MH compatible charger. The BMS accepted the cell voltage on first insertion, and the base station registered a charge state without flagging an error light.
  • First charge protocol for Ni-MH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before making calls. Ni-MH cells in cordless phone packs need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — cutting this short locks in a lower usable ceiling from the start.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

Ni-MH cells ship in a partially discharged state and don't hit rated capacity on the first cycle. The 35500 handset will show noticeably shorter talk time for the first three to five charge cycles — this is normal cell conditioning, not a fault with the pack. Each full charge-and-use cycle unlocks a little more of the 300mAh capacity. By cycle five, talk time should stabilise at the level the original battery delivered when new.

Base station not charging the new pack — error or no-charge light

If the 35500 base shows no charge activity or an error indicator after a battery swap, the cell voltage is likely below the base station's acceptance threshold after storage. Remove the handset, leave it out of the base for 30 seconds, then reseat it firmly — a clean contact reset often clears this. If the base still won't initiate charging, check the handset contacts and base cradle for oxidation. A light clean with a dry cloth on both contact points is enough to restore conductivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NorthWestern Bell 35500 handset won't pair with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT cordless phones lose their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset during a battery swap. With the new battery installed, place the handset in the base and run through the pairing or registration sequence in the handset menu — usually found under Settings or Phone Setup. The base station stores the handset ID, so a re-registration resets the link. Check your 35500 manual for the exact key sequence to enter pairing mode.

The handset battery drains overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what's causing that?

This is almost always a contact seating issue, not a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the base cradle, the charging circuit doesn't close and the handset runs on battery instead of drawing from the base. Lift the handset out completely and reseat it with firm downward pressure until it sits flush. If standby drain continues, clean the gold contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth — oxidation on Ni-MH charging contacts is a common cause of intermittent charging failure.

The range on my 35500 dropped noticeably after I put in the new battery — is something wrong?

Reduced range after a battery swap usually means the new Ni-MH pack is still in its first couple of conditioning cycles and can't hold voltage under RF transmit load. The DECT radio in the 35500 draws a current spike each time it transmits — if the cell voltage sags during that spike, the handset trims transmit power to compensate. Run three to five full charge-and-use cycles through the pack. Once the cells reach their rated 300mAh capacity, voltage sag under transmit load drops and range returns to normal.
