Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

O2 XDA Mini s / XDA Mini Pro — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (WIZA16)
This is a 3.7V Li-ion cell rated at 2800mAh (10.36Wh), built to fit the O2 XDA Mini s and XDA Mini Pro. Both handsets use the same battery bay and connector, so one part number covers both. This replaces the original WIZA16 when the existing cell can no longer hold enough charge for daily use on these mid-2000s Windows Mobile devices.
- XDA Mini s and Mini Pro shared battery platform: Both devices run the same voltage rail and use an identical physical connector and bay depth. The BMS on each handset communicates the same charge termination signals, so one cell works across both without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge and discharge cycle on an XDA Mini s unit. The BMS accepted the cell cleanly, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and no false low-battery flags were raised during discharge.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, let it discharge fully to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before resuming normal use. The XDA Mini s fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve — one complete cycle resets that baseline against the new cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the XDA Mini s after a cell swap
The XDA Mini s uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that references a stored discharge curve from the original factory cell. A new cell with a different internal resistance profile will hit a voltage cliff under screen or radio load before the gauge reads zero. The handset interprets that voltage drop as a hard cutoff and shuts down — even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. One full discharge-to-shutdown and uninterrupted recharge cycle allows the IC to map the new cell's actual voltage curve, and the premature shutdowns typically stop after that.
Phone reports wrong battery percentage after fitting the replacement cell
This happens because the fuel gauge IC on the XDA Mini s retains calibration data from the old, degraded cell. When a new cell is installed, the IC applies the wrong discharge model and reports percentage inaccurately — often reading high early and dropping sharply near the end. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Discharge the device fully until it shuts itself off, then charge straight to 100% without interruption. After that single cycle the gauge recalibrates to the new cell and percentage readings stabilise.

Frequently Asked Questions
My XDA Mini s shuts off at around 25% after fitting the new battery — is something wrong with the cell?
Nothing is wrong with the cell. The fuel gauge IC on the XDA Mini s was calibrated to your old cell's degraded discharge curve, so it cannot accurately track the new cell's voltage under load — the phone cuts out at a voltage the IC wasn't expecting. Run one full discharge to automatic shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100%. That resets the stored curve and the premature shutdowns stop. If it persists past a second full cycle, check that the battery contacts in the bay are clean and making firm contact.
The battery percentage on my XDA Mini s jumps around erratically after I replaced the cell — sometimes it reads 80% then drops to 40% without warning.
The coulomb counter on the XDA Mini s is still working from calibration data built around the original cell. A new cell has a different internal resistance and a steeper discharge curve at low states of charge, so the IC misreads state-of-charge and the percentage jumps. Let the phone discharge fully to shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — do not unplug early. One complete cycle gives the IC enough data to rebuild an accurate model of the new cell, and erratic percentage readings settle down after that.
My XDA Mini s won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before I installed it.
A Li-ion cell that sits in storage self-discharges slowly. If it dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a lockout state to prevent damage and will not pass current to the device. Connect the XDA Mini s to a charger and leave it undisturbed for at least 30–60 minutes without attempting to power it on. Most BMS circuits include a trickle pre-charge mode that slowly recovers a deeply discharged cell back above the lockout threshold — once voltage climbs above roughly 3.0V, normal charging resumes and the phone will power on.
