Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity fault. Under load from the modem radio or screen, the cell voltage drops sharply before the fuel gauge IC expects it to. The OS reads 25% but the cell is already sagging below the minimum operating threshold. One full discharge-to-shutdown and uninterrupted recharge cycle recalibrates the coulomb counter and eliminates most of these premature cutoffs.

Phone shows inflated or jumping battery percentage after cell swap

The fuel gauge IC stores a charge curve mapped to the old cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored model no longer matches actual cell behaviour, so the percentage reading drifts or jumps. The fix is a full calibration cycle: discharge fully until the phone shuts itself off, then charge in one unbroken session to 100% without interruption. After that cycle the IC rewrites its reference model and percentage readings stabilise.
